[AZ-Observing] Re: BONUS ROUND AT VEKOL

Stan,

Out at KOFA, we also had great view of the planets. I viewed Jupiter through
Brett Watsons 8" Dob with a tracking drive at 372x. I cant remember seeing
jupiter that steady at anything near that power. I had noticed about 6 or 7
thin belts north of the NEB, rather evenly spaced. The belts were very
clearly defined. If I wasn't so darned tired by then, I'd have uncovered
Gert and done a little more observing my self.

As for the Leonids, to me it lived up to expectations, But then I haven't
been doing this as long as Brian :). Paul & Brett's reports from KOFA pretty
much said it all, I would have nothing further to add.

Subject: [AZ-Observing] BONUS ROUND AT VEKOL

As a bonus round from Vekol, early Sunday 5am or so, I had some images of
Jupiter that were the best I can remember in my scope! From 100 to 200x the

red storm spot was clearly outlined with double tear drop edges and a hint
of
disturbance at the top, and the opposite large cloud band was quite mottled
with little waves breaking up the top edge and some areas that almost looked

like lighter circles or spots. I did the best I could to sketch it out
before clouds and morning sun had me chasing for coffee.

Having driven out to the desert under gloom and clouds Saturday night, I
felt
like we all won the World Series again when given such a wonderful shower
throughout the night! I tried to nap around 4:30am but couldn't sleep
because folks were yelling so loud with excitement. Got back up and watched

the show until the sun came up. What a night to remember!
