Greetings,
I confirmed what Joe Macke noted below about MIL-HDBK-141 from my copy,
dated 1973. (Ordered mine for free from U.S. Navy Publications and Forms
division years ago.) On the current U.S. Dept. of Defense Single Source
Point (DODSSP) web site, a search for MIL-HDBK-141 finds Notice 1,
Cancellation Notice, dated 29 July 1986, with NO REPLACEMENT noted.

I have sent a copy of the Cancellation Notice PDF file to Joe Macke to
include with his other materials.
Regarding the concern about "copyright" of a US Government publication --
if it still was copyrighted, just HOW does the Surplus Shack get away
with reprinting it for $$$ ?? I noted to Joe that $50 for what was
ORIGINALLY made available FOR FREE to U.S. citizens and "contractors"
wishing to bid for Government contracts might seem a little steep, until
you realize that is for a Xerox copy of a 750 page manual. Measured my
copy -- it is 1 3/4 inches thick, weighs about 2 pounds.
MIL-HDBK-141 contains lots of good info for the serious amateur optician
or physics student..... Professionals would term it "dated" since it was
originally published in 1962. (That's just about when I started out in
this hobby....) For comparison, the up-to-date Optical Society of America
Handbook of Optics (two very fat volumes) is available from McGraw-Hill
for $100 for EACH volume (I got mine for half price from RadioSchlock.com
before they folded over in Mesa....)
