Just looking at the authors of the 'whining' messages, those seem to be the
same people who get out and observe at every opportunity.

Also, it has not just been an ordinarily wet wet season. From the "what
nerds do in their spare time" file, here are some monthly rainfall totals
from:

http://www.wrcc.dri.edu/cgi-bin/cliMONtpre.pl?azphoc

               Monthly Precipitation (in.)
Month 2004-5 Mean Std. Dev. Max.

Nov 0.52 0.61 0.76 3.11
Dec 0.92 0.91 1.09 4.11
Jan 1.85 0.90 0.91 4.31
Feb 2.65 0.78 0.72 3.09

November and December had about average rainfall, but January was a +1
sigma month. And we seem to be headed for record rainfall for February.
People quite often remember rainfall from the late 1970's or early 1980's,
but one of the rainiest winters was 1992-3, when 11 inches fell in those
four months.
