Around Mars in One Night
Red Planet Expert and Author to Sign Book at Arizona Science Center
PHOENIX (July 14, 2005) Join the Arizona Science Center Friday, July 29 as they
welcome Dr. William K. Hartmann, an internationally recognized Mars expert. Dr.
Hartmann will be on site to discuss and sign his new book, "A Traveler's Guide
to Mars" which delves into the many mysteries of the red planet.
"We are so pleased to host a presentation by Dr. Hartmann. He is one of
Arizona's most accomplished scientists," said Chevy Humphrey, Arizona Science
Center CEO. "His research will open your eyes to the beauty of our neighboring
planet."
Dr. Hartmann holds a doctorate in astronomy and master's degree in geology,
both from the University of Arizona. He is the first recipient of the Carl
Sagan medal from the American Astronomical Society. Hartmann has been involved
in several space missions. He was a co-investigator on the NASA Mariner 9
mission, which was the first to map Mars in detail with an orbiting spacecraft,
and on NASA's Mars Observer mission. He is currently a participating scientist
in the U.S. Mars Global Surveyor mission.
Dr. Hartmann has spent many years researching the origin and evolution of all
planets. In, "A Traveler's Guide to Mars," Dr. Hartmann explores 36 of his
favorite places on Mars and details the chronological history of the planet.
This fascinating book will be on hand for $20 and can be signed by the author.
