[AZ-Observing] Re: Arizona Observing Sites???

John,

If you are flexible in where you choose to live in the state, you could go
just about anywhere and have access to some medical and groceries. There
are plenty of smaller towns that fit the bill.

I'm a bit prejudiced in favor of my home town Tucson. We have city
amenities (plenty of medical care), and darker skies closer to town than
Phoenix. We also have a huge astronomy club, which attracts first-rate
speakers, and is very active visually and photographically. If you have not
already, you might want to check out WWW. TUCSONASTRONOMY.ORG. The
University of Arizona attracts various scientific meetings and events, as
well as cultural activities. Another plus is access to no fewer than three
astronomy/telescope specialty stores in the city. And there are plenty of
extremely rural dark skies with a couple hours drive, ranging from mountain
tops to desert valleys.

Good luck in your search.
