I received a copy of this today. Despite having seen the book
in 'galley proof' stage, for some reason I was expecting a small volume
something like Steve Hynes' planetary nebulae book. Not so: the star
cluster book is the size/thickness of the second edition of DSFG!
A huge amount of information is collected here, and among the
things that strikes me is the amount of fairly straightfoward work that
could be done by amateurs on the various star-groups just using the
catalogue resources now available on-line. This book provides the
guide to direct that effort.
A large number of us on these mailing-lists are mentioned
frequently in the book, and clearly the authors have assembled the
collective wisdom to good end. Loads of images, long tabular datasets,
and complete bibliographical citations---quite a lot to digest for
anyone interested in this subject.
