A 14-inch stopped to f/68 would be 0.2 inches (about 5mm aperture)!

Presumably Grafton is using an eyepiece-projection rig, so he gets
the 14-inches aperture at f/68, i.e. about 24,000mm focal length, and
a whopping image scale of 0".11/mm.
Perusal of amateur planetary photos in Sky & Telescope since the
1960s will show that all you need for good planet images is really good
seeing, not a big aperture. If you could put up with all the very cloudy
nights, Houston obviously delivers in the seeing department.
