[AZ-Observing] All Arizona Star Party and thank you to EVAC

Howdy all;

Well, the weather certainly did not hold up for this year's All Az Star
Party, but the company was terrific. Phil Harrington did make it out
for Friday night and we did observe a little. I put several famous and
bright multiple stars in the 7 inch Maksutov and AJ had a finder chart
for the supernova in NGC 6946, so there was some observing. I think
that the exploding star was actually pretty easy in the 14 inch. Also,
Dave Fredericksen was getting started with the list of the best double
stars and we looked at a few of them in his C 11.

But besides those few observations, most of the time it was cloudy. So,
Phil did not get a chance to see much of beautiful Arizona skies. I
hope that the day will come when he does return to Arizona for a visit
and we can make it out to clear, dark skies.

Phil and I started corresponding about 15 years ago on the Compuserve
astronomy forum. Much like this group, it was a fun mix of a lot of
knowledgeable observers of all types. So, it was great to meet him in
person after all these years. We circled the chairs and told stories of
observing the sky.what we have seen and what it took to go see it. It
was a very fun astronomy bull session; I would not have missed it for
anything.

To get away from the gnats, we had a group go up to the Pizza Hut on
Saturday for lunch. We returned and had a short swap meet (no one
bought the 7 inch Maksutov). Looking at the clouds, it obviously was
not going to get better, so AJ, Dave and I tore down and returned home.
We noticed many folks were doing the same.

As always, a big Thank You to the members of EVAC who put the AASP
together. I appreciate your time and willingness to work so that this
is a fun star party.

Maybe we can get lucky in November and have the weather cooperate for
the Sentinel-Schwaar Star Gaze. That will be weekend of Nov. 13.

Hope to see you there;
Steve Coe
