Hailing from the north country I have camped in snowbanks. My 
observation is the sleeping bag ratings are the temperature above 
which you will not freeze. To be comfortable always get a 20 to 30 
degree colder rating than you think you might encounter. Otherrwise 
bring some blankets to supplement the bag. Equal amount beneath as on 
top. This is assuming protection from the wind (even in a snowbank).
