I'm glad I was not alone with the frustrations of Saturday night. After
spending hours of preparation I had 35mm CCD, a 4" refractor, and C8 all
set to see and record the asteroid (my first asteroid). Looking at Lyra
with binoculars I could barely make out the stars (aside from Vega) as
the west Phoenix sky was very bright. Climbing to the second story of my
observatory and C8 i found I could see things much better. The problem
was it was close to 100 at 8 PM and high humidity. With sweat stinging my
eyes I searched for 2002 NY40. I finally decide to lay i wait for it at a
know position. Just before I should have seen it the clouds rolled in.
Next time!
Hats off to Howard C. Anderson. Great images.
Observing in Phoenix in August is not recommended.
