[AZ-Observing] 155EDF on Phoenix Craigslist for $2700: Too Good to Be True

http://phoenix.craigslist.org/spo/485049396.html

Yes, it was too good to be true, but I have to admit that this Craigslist ad
for a 6" A-P refractor had me going since last night. I convinced myself that
the telescope really was in Arizona, since those are Ponderosa pine trees in
the pictures.

So I responded to the ad, figuring that I was only giving out an e-mail address
by replying. He came back with this reply:

Hi,
thank you for your email. I still have it for sale. Right now i am gone in my
honeymoon in Hawaii but i hope that`s not going to be a prblem because i can
still handle the transaction. When i left in my honeymoon, i left the item
along with several other items in the custody of The Online Outpost because i
wanted to sell them on eBay when i return, but something came up back home,
something wrong with my mom and i decided to sell this one before i get back
but not on ebay because i need to sell it faster. So if you are still
interested let me know because i can make the transaction immediately. Just let
me know and i will explain all the details of the transaction...
Harry

Oh yes, please explain all the details of this tranaction, Harry!

Apparently this "honeymoon in Hawaii" is a fairly new Craigslist scam (or a
resurrected one), as the honeymooner is also selling two Marantz amplifiers at
absurdly low prices as discussed on a Polk Audio forum in the past week.
Identical wording is used in "Harry's" reply.

Obviously, you have to watch out on Craigslist, but I will say that my daily
perusing of the site led to the most smoking deal on TeleVue eyepieces ever for
me. That was a bona fide good deal whose price seemed equally absurd when I
first read the ad.
