ACTING CHIEF ENGINEER?S REPORT:
SUBJECT: Polaron radiation leakage throughout the ship.
ADDRESSED TO: Captain Keith Ketchum
Official report on the polaron radiation incidents reported throughout the ship
to follow. At approximately fourteen hundred hours today, scattered pockets of
polaron radiation passed through the shields and affected members of the crew
located in engineering, as well as a few in other sections. Victims were
reported as very healthy up until the moment that they came in contact with the
radiation, which I am told suppresses a good deal of neural activity.
I had the shields modified, and they are now blocking out low-level polaron
radiation, but should we encounter a larger or more dense pocket of radiation,
I fear that the shields will be inadequate protection against it?s effects. I
will continue to fortify the shields to the best of my ability.
Meanwhile, three of my staff are in sickbay. Crewmen Mulligan, Andrews, and
Smith. Mulligan was working in main engineering when the incident occurred, and
both Andrews and Smith were inside the forward deflector dish access room, on
deck nine.
Barring Ensign Hobbes Harvey?s tendencies towards madness, I would suggest him
as a valuable asset in ascertaining and repairing the possibly extensive damage
done to fellow members of our crew. I have also sent repair crews to the
various sections of the ship where the Bioneural gel-packs have been disabled.
It appears that the neuro-suppressant qualities of the polaron radiation have
the same effect on our gel packs as they do the human nervous system.
I will continue to report as information becomes available to me.
Thank you for your time-
Ensign Dodge Thomas
Acting Chief Engineer
