<USS Avalon> log: Fateless Reality

Fateless Reality

-Dodge Thomas

It was quiet in Dodge?s quarters. More so than he remembered. Very little had
changed in the month or so since he had allegedly died yet the silence his
absence screamed at him still rang loudly in his ears, so deafeningly, so
mockingly, so?oh for the sake of Pete. Dodge sighed loudly, not feeling any
better for the act.

Leila was gone, of course, taken by the stars. She had always loved the stars.
Dodge sighed again, not quite so long and just as dissatisfying. Then there was
Carson and Lindsay, the forensic doctors who had briefly said goodbye before
departing. Duty calls Carson had said, shrugging and then smiling as if to say
?have a good life?.

Anilla was working diligently in Engineering. She was always working
diligently.

Dodge shifted on his bed and sat back with a long sigh. A month had gone by for
the entire crew of the Avalon. Everybody had changed a little, everyone except
himself. He had changed, but not in the same way. They understood things about
worlds that would be that he could never hope to know, and he had learned
things about himself and the intricacies of the worlds around him that they
could never understand. He felt separated, distant.

?Snap out of it,? He said aloud. Standing, he fixed his hair which had
degenerated into a state of mild bed-headedness. ?I just need a drink!? He
smiled. Alcohol, blessed alcohol. With that in mind, he headed off to the crew
lounge, determined to either rediscover what it meant to really be a part of
the crew or rediscover what it meant to be really drunk.

note: Hey, anyone who would like to write with me, I?ll be available in yahoo
chat Friday between 8am and 11am pacific time. Also, an email sent directly to
me could start a log. (obviously, I intend not to get drunk when I go to the
lounge?lol) -Brandon
