"When Will I see You again?" Part III

    Nothing serves to remind you of what you don't have than being apart from 
who you love, thought Mehdi Idrys as he got up morosely and realized Skyler 
wasn't with him. But then, he had to maintain separate quarters. What would 
people say if they suddenly noticed he was moving in with her, even at her 
invitation, while she was under investigation? And suppose the route of 
questioning 
came his way, too?

    He shook his head in disbelief. Public opinion or whatever. Man but I 
hate this. He walked over to the sonic shower and stepped in. Gods but do I 
ever 
wish I could've had her company for this. He smirked as he got out and stepped 
into his uniform. I have to do something, or else go crazy, he thought. What 
to do? Hey, think, man, think, you're a romantic, you should know what to ... 
heeeeeeeeeeeey ... that's it!!

    He went over and replicated some more roses. White ones, this time. More 
contrast. Good. He went over to the side of his bed, sat down and began 
writing on a PADD.

    Skyler, Imzadi, knowing you as part of my life goes beyond words. You've 
saved me, liberated me from the boredom, the tedium I had known before. I'm 
just a lowly medic here and was looking towards business as usual and I simply 
had "a job to do" ... looking over someone that had arrived in the brig as a 
matter of medical routine ... and it was you. 

    I fell in love with you at first sight, you know. Didn't you? Did you 
sense it, my love? I had to be "all business" there and oh-so-professional. 
Truth 
be told, when you told me the story of what had happened and I instantly knew 
you were in there illegally, I wanted to put my arms around you and kiss you 
right on the spot. I couldn't because I didn't know how you would react and 
because there was no privacy there what with the guards, the security cameras 
and all. That's part of why I got out of there so soon ... I wouldn't have been 
able to control myself had I stayed otherwise.

    I am so lonely without you. The flowers that come with this message are 
another token of my love. I give you my word that I'll be there full time when 
this stupid investigation is over. Until then we can't arouse suspicions. I 
know it sucks, Imzadi, but that's just the way things are.

    Unless, of course, you'd like to pull rank on me and order me in there as 
your personal physician or something ... you may no longer be Executive 
Officer at least during the investigation, but they haven't taken away your 
rank of 
Commander.

    I only want to be with you. I miss your voice, your warmth, your touch, 
your fragrance. Everything about you, I miss. I want to always be by your side. 
Hell, if it were allowed on this ship, I would come to your quarters and ask 
you to marry me. Unfortunately what I've read about ship's regs says no to 
that but we can always do the next-best thing. We're lovers for life and I 
couldn't ask for anyone better than you. I sometimes wonder if I truly deserve 
you. 
Are you sure you truly wish for me? That I am really the one of your dreams? 
For you are undoubtedly the woman of mine. Literally. My dreams are filled with 
images of you, of your voice, of our being together. They're frequent, 
Imzadi, and before I came to Avalon I rarely dreamed at all. You're the focus 
of my 
life now. Nothing matters to me but you.

    I love you, Imzadi. I just want us to be together. Stay well, stay safe, 
and I will be with you again for a visit soon. I promise.

    He took the PADD and the roses and placed them in the middle of the floor 
with a spare commbadge. "Computer ... beam these items to the following 
coordinates in Commander Skyler's room." He tapped a few buttons and then 
watched 
as they shimmered away.

    Merry Christmas, Imzadi. He smiled. Somehow, he felt less alone now.
