<USS Avalon> When Death Calls...

When Death Calls...

by Senior Lieutenant Anthony Manson

I got to the ?tools? that the man instructed me to go for. And it was where he
said it would be. In it, I found a duffle bag big enough to fit a small
emergency medkit. I checked the contents, and it wasn?t much. One primitive
Rydyn energy pistol that was already calibrated to kill, four PADDs and one
isolinear chip I was unsure what to do with. Though if it meant getting the
Captain killed efficiently, then no doubt the chip had access codes, command
codes, and who knows what else. Oh, and a voice synthesizer. I doubted this
would cover everything, so I had look more closely at what I had.

I got the tools out as I took holodeck two and sealed it; the sole purpose for
my time to familiarize myself with the given tools. The PADDs contained some
classified information that Rydyn was trying to keep under wraps. Having
Federation admittance was a big issue, and surely these PADDs had enough
damning proof to halt the admittance for at least a decade. But that was as far
the intro went into as I skimmed the PADD. If the man wanted the Rydyns to be
implicated, then this would do quite well. One was the diplomatic relations to
the other Rydyn nations, apparently they were all unified but there was slight
turmoil. Such unstable peace that there was a virtual state of war in each of
their Intelligence arm vying for control over interstellar Intel matters. That
would be the first step of the Federation viewing their Rydyn friends under
suspicion.

The second and third PADDs- for the most part of which I didn?t bother reading
but did get an idea- were the biogenic, chemical, and thermonuclear weapons
they were still producing and- without the Federation being aware- being sold
to ?interested parties.? Particularly to the Orion Syndicate, who expressed
much interest for a lucrative offer. One of those offers was advance, though
slightly used, Breen warp cores and Cardassian sensor technology. Section had
stated that while the Rydyns had their limited means, they were fully capable
of making such transactions as long as they met their ends. I shut the PADDs
down and placed them on the table.

The fourth PADD was made just for a Rydyn delegate. The sensitive information
exposed, and the Avalon?s captain more then aware of Rydyn?s activities. No
doubt, whoever the Delegate I was suppose to implicate would talk to the
Captain- as the PADD would also state that, and that would be the starting
point of everything.

The isolinear chip gave me access to security surveillance covering just about
the entire area of deck two, and upon my activation would alter some necessary
records to further my cause of not being caught. If things got drastic, I
noticed several other codes that were made to create ?malfunctions,? to draw
attentions elsewhere. And some transporter codes, site to site mainly.

It took about an hour to get everything straightened out as I paced back and
forth, trying to find the most efficient way to kill... the Captain. It?s not
something I would ever do, granted, but for the first time I?m being forced to
think like an assassin. I don?t even know if I?m doing all this right. "Or
Alder dies," I shook my head. When the time comes, I?ll have to do it quickly
without so much as a sound. Not only that, but exactly how was he going to die?
I?d have to shoot him from the front. The isolinear chip had access to previous
security records and the last one to visit him was a Rydyn delegate by the name
of Wren and a sub-Lieutenant Quie. When I got the delegation into the Avalon, I
noticed that each member that was with the military carried a sidearm. I tried
reassuring them there was no need for sidearms, but had given up the attempt by
the fourth run of the Delegation Welcoming.

If there wasn?t anyone else visiting the Captain, the Wren would be my main
target as well. I?d have to transport the fourth PADD to his quarters, that
would get his attention and no doubt would pay a visit to the Captain. Don?t
know what is going to happen between that time, but once Wren and his guard
leave the Captain?s office, I... I guess that?s where I come in. A site to site
transport, kill him, place the first three PADDs on his desk- or somewhere
secluded but accessible; and beam out to Quie?s quarters where I?d place the
used Rydyn?s energy pistol somewhere... maybe in one of his uniforms and then
beam out again to a safe area. By then, all I have to do is dispose of the
isolinear chip.

It sounded so simple.

Only death is simple.

God help me.
