<USS Avalon> Waking the Avalon - Part 2

Waking the Avalon - Part 2
Ten Days Ago = Ready Room = SS Renaissance

"We’ve received new orders," Captain Lorentz announced, looking over his
assembled staff. "Three days ago a runabout, the SS Starburst, was stolen from
the Vega Prime Research facility. This vessel contained six bio-weapon
prototypes, two incomplete prototypes and two cryo-tanks containing
irreplaceable
experimental research samples. Our mission is to retrieve the ship and it’s
contents. We are to ensure that the incomplete prototypes and the cryo-tanks
are
retrieved intact and unmolested. If we find that we cannot retrieve the six
active bio-weapons we are to destroy them. We’re to go in with weapons and
shields prepared for the possibility of open hostilities. We have been warned
that those who stole those prototypes may well use them against us so make
sure our defenses are at maximum. Questions?"
Lt. Stephanovich, a petite blonde, raised her hand tentatively.
"This isn’t grade school lieutenant." Lorentz sighed, running a large black
hand through his thinning white hair.
"Um...yeah…sorry sir," she replied timidly. "But do we know what exactly
these bio-weapons are capable of or how to disarm them? And…what of the
thieves?
Anything ?"
Lorentz shook his head. "We know that they were created on Vega Prime by a
team of bio-genetic engineers. We’ve been advised not to be deceived by
appearances, which tells me that they don’t seem as dangerous as they are, but
nothing else. As to the thieves…nothing. Sorry. Next question?"
"How did they get all of that without getting caught? I don’t know how big
the weapons are, but cryo-tanks aren’t exactly small or lightweight." Lt.
Commander Patrick McEntire asked, shuddering at the thought of his own time
encapsulated in one. "How’d they get them out of there and away without
setting
off alarms?"
"The cryo-tanks were already aboard the ship they took," Lorentz answered.
"It seems Doctor Correlli left them aboard her personal vessel while it
awaited repairs, believing they were safest there."
"So much for that thought," Mac muttered.
"Excuse me, McEntire? More to add?" Lorentz glared.
"No sir." Mac answered, shaking his head at the idiocy of some people. "Just
wondering if she gift-wrapped them, too."
"I’ll be sure to ask her next time she checks in," Lorentz responded wryly.
"Any more questions?" he waited a moment. When no others spoke up, he nodded
curtly. "Very well then. Dismissed."
