<USS Avalon> USS Avalon> Into The Black

Into The Black

Returning from a workout in then gym, Nerys finds Karg dressed completely in
black; black turtleneck, black yoke on his uniform even his Com Badge is
black. "What are you . . . I've seen that uniform somewhere . . . Is that a
Section
31 uniform?"
"Technically Section 31 doesn't exist. This is supposed to be a Black OPS
uniform."
From storage beneath their bed, Karg retrieved a black EVA suit and began
getting into it. Nerys asks, "Where are you going?"
"Over to the Allegiance, I'm gonna have a look see."
"Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't remember the Captain ordering an away
mission."
"He didn't."
"Then how can you? . . ."
"As Tactical Officer, I can't. As Covert OPS officer, I supposed to gather
Intel without anyone knowing. Its sort of a fine line but if the mission
appeared on the ship's logs then it wouldn't be covert."
"Won't the captain be angry?"
"Oh . . . almost certainly."
Nerys is not happy with this state of affairs. "How are you going to get
there?"
"That's where you come in. I'm going to beam over. Before you energize the
transporter, use this code to disable the system that notifies the bridge. I
have a transponder that you can track."

Nerys walks closer to enjoy his warm embrace. She has been in this position
before and likes it even less now. "I don't suppose it would do any good to
tell you to be careful?"
Karg doesn't answer but kisses her tenderly and she adds, "I didn't think
so."

As soon as the Allegiance drops her shields, Karg is aboard, near the section
that has lost containment. The place is a mess. Power is off-line. There are
lifeless bodies in the hall and droplets of blood floating, it seemed,
everywhere. Karg kept to the shadows as his helmet tricorder recorded
everything. Its
control panel was mounted on his left sleeve.

Karg’s senses are dulled by the suit but he could swear he sensed something
moving about, not far away. Further down the hall, a door kept trying to close
on a lifeless ankle. The sensation of someone or something else increased as
Karg moved along the corridor so he found a dark corner and hunkered down to
listen. After ten minutes, the sensation did not increase neither did it
decrease. It was time to move.

Karg’s tred was silent as he moved deeper into the ship. Having passed a side
corridor he heard movement behind him as he turned to see what it was, there
was a loud guttural sound, full of anger. He was fast but not quite fast
enough. The powerful blow caught him square in the back and lifted him off his
feet
to be slammed into the ceiling. After the resulting fall, he ended up sliding
down the corridor on his left side some thirty feet away.

This thing was coming to finish him off and it was big. His tricorder must be
getting it but even at this distance he could make out no features. Just
before it tried to crush his head like a melon, Karg, barely able to move, got
the
Mek’leth at the small of his back and thrust it into the inner thigh of
whatever it was. It screamed in agony and pressing his luck, Karg summoned all
his
strength and drove the weapon deeper. The screaming was so loud that Karg
thought they must be hearing it back on the Avalon. Something wet hit Karg’s
faceplate. With the last bit of his strength Karg activates his Com Badge.
"Karg to
Kira, get me to Sick Bay." And in but a moment, he was gone.
