<USS Avalon> Two Engineers Meet Jr Lt K'etrall and Ensign Sakong


"Two Engineers Meet"

     K'etrall was working in engineering, alone again, when she thought she 
heard the doors open. She stood up and yelled, "Whose there?"

       When she got no immediate answer she returned to what she was doing, 
yet she felt like there was still someone there. As she was working she heard 
this voice that replied, "Sakong Tyranus reporting Ma'am."

       K'etrall looked up to see a rather large reptilian creature standing 
before her. She was nervous but she wasn't about to show it.

       "And just who might you be?"

       "Sakong Tyranus reporting Ma'am."

       K'etrall was getting a little frustrated. "You said that already. But 
who are you and what are you doing in engineering?"

       Looking down at her Sakong replied, "I am the new engineer," as he 
wrinkled his nose in a funny way.

       K'etrall wasn't sure what to do or say. She certainly didn't want to 
antagonize this large person. "I have no report of any new engineers coming.

       Sakong was beginning to get annoyed with the mammal. As he cocked his 
head he handed K'etrall a PADD. "Well, here are my orders."

       K'etrall took the PADD and before she read it she bombarded the new 
engineer with questions.  

       "When did you arrive and how long do you plan on staying
since everyone else seems to always leave?"

       Reading the PADD she realized she finally was getting some help in 
engineering, something she desperately needed.

       "Permanently, and this morning" annoyed such a small thing has such 
tenacity.

       "Well, Mr. Sakong, welcome to Engineering. I am sorry about
the questions but it seems lately that no one sticks around. Have you been
informed of our current situation?"

       "Negative, I was given a physical and time to unpack, nothing more."

       "Well, let me fill you in as best I can. It seems that we
entered a rift of some kind and we are now in the future. So much in the 
future that nothing is as we are used to. Currently we are running for our 
lives 
to a planet called Talos IV, the death planet. They are trying to figure out
how to get us back to our time but it may take them a while."

       K'etrall looked at Sakong for any reaction, but discovered he was hard 
to read. That didn't matter as long as he could make an engine work.

       "It is our job to make sure we keep the engines running and warp 
online as well as the weapons. The problem is that when we entered the rift the 
engines went haywire and they haven't quite been the same since."

       "Interesting, any thoughts as to why or theories" K'etrall thought she 
could see Sakong's mind working double time to figure out the problem. 
Hopefully he will have better luck than she had had.

       "I have no idea, I have been too busy trying to keep the
engines running. It could have something to do with the rift itself or it
could be the time period. I just don't have any answers right now other than 
I am glad to have some help."

       Sakong seemed to be really interested in the problem. "It would be my 
pleasure to look into it, once adjusted to working here"

       "I would be glad to have the help and you are free to look
into it. As I said before welcome aboard. Now I have to get back to work. If 
you want to look around and get aquatinted with things that's fine, or if you 
want to jump right that is fine as well."

       Sakong nods a slight bow he leaves her be and lumbers over to the warp 
core itself.

       Meanwhile K'etrall returns to what she was doing and hopes that this 
new engineer can help solve the mystery of what caused the engines to go 
haywire in the first place and keep them from doing it again.
