<USS Avalon> "To Face Reality or Not" Commandr Skyler

"To Face Reality or Not"

Cmdr Skyler

Skyler had just had her chat with the doctor and decided to take her
advice and head to the Holodeck but not to throw tomato's. She was going to go
and get some relaxation in. After all it had been awhile since she had had some
time to think things out for herself.

She entered the holodeck and her program was running. The air was
dripping with moisture from the humidity. There was a chill in the air, enough
of
one that a fire would suffice to keep her warm. Walking toward the lake, she
could see that there wasn't a ripple to be seen from one edge to the other. It
reminded her of a similar night. One that she wanted to forget.

She wanted to forget it, yet part of her didn't. Otherwise she wouldn't
be there in those surroundings. The last place that they had been "together"
and actually felt like they were together. She could remember the smells and
the sounds of that night like it was yesterday. But that is not what or why she
came here. She came to relax and this is the best program she had for
relaxation.

Skyler collected the wood that she would need for the fire and proceeded
to make it without to much difficulty. She then laid out the blanket she had
brought with her as well as some food supplies and settled in for a little
relaxation.

She stared at the sky and tried to pick out the different constellations
like she used to do when she lived back at home on earth. She could find
Orion, and Leo, but she always had trouble with the simple ones like the big
dipper and little dipper. Then there were the planets. She could find the moon,
that one was always easiest. The farther away they were the harder they became
for her. It was amazing to her at times that she even made it through Starfleet
academy, let alone made it to Executive Officer of such a ship as the Avalon.

She wasn't anything special, so how did she make it this far? How did
she become second in command of such a ship? How did she manage to fall for
someone who was so....so different than anyone she had ever expected to meet,
let
alone fall for? This was so unlike her that she didn't know which way was up
any more. She usually had better control of her emotions than this.

The fire was getting low so she went and collected more wood and added
it to the fire. Once that was done she opened up some of the food she had
brought and prepared it over the fire. She always felt that food cooked over an
open fire tasted better than replicated food. Once the food was done cooking,
Skyler prepared her plate and found a log to sit on, and began to eat.

While she was eating, she could hear the ripple of water as the fish
started to play in the water. It was feeding time for them as well. Listening
to
them jump through the water to catch the flies and other bugs was more
relaxing then most people thought. This was also true of the crickets and their
chirping. To Skyler they were sounds of home. Not that she had any plans of
ever
going back home, because she was home on the Avalon as far as she was concerned.

The food was eaten and cleaned up, which left Skyler time to think some
more about her little problem. It really wasn't a problem as much as it was an
annoyance. She knew that they would both act like Starfleet officers, but
that wasn't going to stop her from feeling the way she felt. That was going to
take time.
Time was something she had plenty of. She wasn't going anywhere soon and she
didn't think that Javan was either.

The only thing she could do is to was to continue as she would normally
do and that was be the best XO she could be and leave her other problems in
her quarters. Now that she had decided on that course of action she could
actually try and relax, which is what she had come to the holodeck for in the
first
place.

She put everything away, stoked the fire, and wrapped herself in the
blanket and leaned up against the log and let the sounds and smells surround
her.
She would stay like that until the fire died down or until she was called
away. Either way she wasn't leaving the contented space she was in. She was not
ready to face reality......not just yet!
