<USS Avalon> Time?s Up

Time?s Up

by Colonel Alder Shimbrodus

Alder viewed the latest report on the war. It was not going well on this front
as the Breen pushed in and with the aid of the Nausicans, they would be able to
cut through the Federation in half. With Risa being the bridge between the two
powers. Alder wanted to spit out something bitter that build instantly in his
throat. Traitors, all of them, and yet nothing was being done.

So far the reports were all the same, warring factions held on all fronts.
Romulans were slowly being chipped away system by system. While the Klingon-
Baku Union were getting more aggressive in their attacks with the Gorn- Tholian
Alliance. How the Federation got dragged into their squabbles was anyone?s
guess. Some say it was the colony on Cestus III that everyone had strategic
interest in. Not that the place had anymore value, Cestus III was eradicated.

On a different front, Tzenkethi forces were getting braver; raiding numerous
colonies and trade routes within the Federation. They were already in a war
with the Breen, and it would likely escalate to a war with the Federation.

The report than dragged on about the Gorn- Tholian push to claim multiple
sectors of space. A lot of ships were lost, a lot of casualties as the
Federation fought for every cubic meter of space. Alder smirked, the Federation
didn?t need those territories, there were lost more to gain as they pushed
themselves into Romulan space.

But then the report stopped at a section marked in bright red. The Federations
latest loss in the war. Deneva Prime, New Berlin, and Betazed was about to
fall. All by the Breen- Nausican Coalition.

Alder gripped the PADD, a sudden wash of anger that only cemented his hatred of
the Federation?s enemy welled up and brought the young Colonel to his feet.
"Where?s the Lassiter and Cordova?"

"They have just dropped out of warp," replied someone at the Operations council
that Alder didn?t bother to identify.

"Good, assume an attack formation, and head for Risa. I want those biogenic
weapons prepared in two minutes."

The helmsman turned around, emotions betraying his thoughts and Alder read
right through it, "I don?t care what Murgo has to say. The Risans haven?t given
in to our demands, and this is a small price to pay. Set course now. Hail the
Lassiter."

The screen came on, Colonel James Monroe sat comfortably and then stood up to
walk a little closer, "Colonel Shimbrodus," Monroe greeted professionally, "I
must ask why we are in attack formation."

"That?s simple, we?re going in and taking out the Risans. Do you have
objections?" Alder demanded hotly.

Monroe hesitated, as he narrowed his eyes, "no. I will have my tactical officer
coordinate with yours."

Alder nodded, "good." And then cut the screen off, "give me a view of Risa."

The beautiful planet showed, as two Nova class gun ships past the Avalon's view
and took formation on both sides of Avalon bow. The small fleet seared through
space at maximum impulse.

The tactical sensors began bleeping, picking up three ships heading out of
Risa?s atmosphere. Alder registered the bleeps as he sat back down with the
same smug grin forming, "All hands, battle stations."
