Thoughts of a Marine

By Adrian Jackson Phillips

Adrian was walked by his two marines to the brig. In all honesty he was not at
all disgusted with what at all had occurred. He seemed to remember his orders
of removing the phaser sensors in the gym at all times so that they could
practice live fire, but he assumed that someone like that foolish Captain
probably overrided it since it wasn't with the code.

"The Navy never seems to understand, and thats why there is always so much
tension between the two branches." Phillips commented quietly to himself as
they continued.

The two escorts nodded. “Aye sir, that’s true enough. Do you think it was too
much though, executing Kano like that?” One inquired as they walked.

Adrian waited till they walked through the double doors into the brig area
before answering. “No, not at all actually. This Ensign from the Regallians has
caused this ship more then enough trouble, just based on the fact that she’s
already put 5 of our crew in brig. Not only that, to be a marine means you
accept a code of honor and of dignity. Sure the recruiters don’t always get it
right, and during the war we needed men,” he paused. “But that doesn’t matter.
Kano was in the wrong more so then any I’ve seen in a long while. Attacking a
defenseless woman in the ring with disruptors, and then only to get beaten by
her afterwards? Aside from the pride factor of the marines, which is irrelevant
at this point, he should not have attacked a fellow officer of Starfleet
without her consent, even if she was in the ring.”

Sophia nodded and drew a sad face as she typed in the commands to open up the
brig cell. “True enough sir, and the company believes in you. Some of us
weren’t quite sure if that was over the top or not, but with a better
explanation it’ll put us at ease.

“At ease except that our trusted CO is under arrest, and we have some
non-Starfleet transfer Commanding us.” Jax stated forcefully. He was obviously
not happy at all about the situation, and as one of the unit’s medics, that’s
not a good thing to have.

After stepping into the brig cell Adrian spoke again. “Now now Jax, there’s no
reason to get angry or disrespect Walker simply because he is not SFMC. The man
is capable, though the Regallians are a bit strange at times. It does not help
matters that he is too involved in the current situation with this Ensign, but
no matter. You all continue to be marines, regardless of who’s leading you,
because the marines are one, and the company is the marines.” With that,
Phillips saluted his two marines from the other side of the cell.

With a bitter-sweet salute, both Jax and Sophia returned it, and then Sophia
activated the force-field around the brig cell, and slowly walked out of the
room to return to their duties.

Once they had gone Adrian sat down in his cell and chuckled to himself. The
things you get yourself into Adrian, you’d think that these high and mighty
Navy officers would catch on and give respect to their Senior Officers, or even
to another branch of Starfleet.

“No matter” He finished his though process out loud to himself. “The divide
will just widen some more, and poor Skyler will never again have the respect of
his marine company or probably any of the marines in the SFMC in general.” Yet
another item to add to the story-books of why marines and navy never get along.
Simple misunderstanding and lack of interest to explore the other side.
