The Trial
The opening of the trial began at Starbase 12; Commander Sal Cardonas seemed
relentless in his contempt of Ketchum. The high and mighty Ketchum, Son of an
Ambassador, probably didnât have to work hard a day in his life.
Cardonas worked is own way through school, orphaned during the Borg invasion
of Wolf 359. Struggled through law school, and despised Commanding officers
that tried to use their commands to get away with murder.
The parties had gone through the trial calling witnesses and cross-examining.
Most of the information had been duplicates of what was in the reports and
previous interviews.
The panel deciding the case appeared to take notes, throughout the proceeding.
Dawson leaned over to Keith, âSon, they are going to call you next. Which is
better for us to defuse the questioning a bit with the cross-examine,
correct, Ms. Cross?â
âThat is actually correct, easier to clean up a mess once itâs out there,
instead of them causing it after we do the initial questioning.â
The judge had been relatively quiet only ruling on the objections. He too
was taking notes, throughout.
The judge called a brief recess to allow everyone to catch his or her
thoughts, as the trial had already gone on for several days.
Returning from the recess, the prosecution stood up, âThe prosecution calls
Captain Keith Ketchum.â
