<USS Avalon> "The Transfer" Captain K'etrall & Ensign Manson

"The Transfer"

Captain K'etrall & Ensign Manson

Anthony made his way to the captain's office a little on edge.
Nervousness crept up, but he shook his head as he regained his cool leveled
self.
Double checking on his mental blocks to keep from hearing other people’s
thoughts,
he entered the turbolift. His next stop; the captain's ready room. Actually,
it was his shift on the bridge, and in fact, after he was done talking to the
captain, he’d resume his duties as the Operations officer on this vessel. No
point lingering, and lingering would be bad; since he was- in more then just a
technical sense- on duty.

The turbolift traveled through the veins of the ship as it stopped once
or twice picking up more people and redepositing them at their desired
destination. Of the total twelve more that came onto the lift, only three were
left.
Himself, and two other crew members he didn’t recognize. Anthony had been
posted here for two years, and still he didn’t quite know everyone. You’d
think
I’d actually try remembering the bridge crew at least, his moment of
self-deprecating thought flew by. Anthony wasn’t much of a socializer, and he
realized
it was a problem for him, never being able to fully develop a friendship with
anyone. Being too quiet, that’s what you get, he mildly scolded himself.

Making way to the bridge, it was calm, peaceful. The various consoles
that filled the bridge bleeped off and on at undetermined times. Letting
whoever
operated them know either they were doing things right; or they needed to
start over.

Entering the captain’s office, he saw her sitting looking over at her
computer console. Her Klingon features stood out. Her hair was tied back,
revealing
the familiar brown skin. She looked up, noticing that Anthony entered- of
course she already knew he entered, but felt eye contact was the better part of
necessity.

"Mr. Manson...you’ve requested a transfer. Why?" Captain Ketrall, as far
as Anthony knew, was always cut to the point. She readjusted her posture from
forward to a more up right position. She then reached her hand out, offering
a seat for Anthony to take.

"I can’t explain." Anthony took the seat and looked at her. Although his
gaze shifted again, the nervousness crept up like and undying wind.

"You had better try Mr. Manson. You’ve requested a transfer and I’d
like to know why. From what I’ve seen of your service record under my command
and
that of other commanders, you do pretty well: I don’t like losing good
officers." Ketrall pressed on.

"I feel...uncomfortable on this ship, ma’am. Now, I know every Starfleet
officer facing this sort of problem is to make the best of it. But, I’ve been
posted here for two years, and I still feel...detached."

K'etrall looked at the young Ensign and realized that he had been on
board the Blackwell for the length of time he had mentioned and she had to
admit
that even she didn't have too much outstanding to say about him. He still
looked like he was fresh out of the academy. Perhaps he would be better on a
Starfleet vessel instead of a medical ship.

"Well, Ensign, you are in luck today. We have a visitor from a ship
called the USS Avalon. She is the XO of that vessel and is here visiting with
Dr.
Moreya for a day or so. I have spoken with her and she has agreed to take you
back with her. You will be serving on the Avalon at the OPS position. I expect
that you will do it with the utmost respect and honor as you would had you
continued to serve upon this vessel."

She could see that he was a little nervous about having to1) face his
captain and 2) request a transfer of said captain knowing that it is not easy
to
ask such a thing of a Klingon. Actually he had handled himself rather well.
She was almost tempted to let him squirm some more but thought better of it and
decided to let him go.

"Unless you have anything else, I suggest you return to your shift and
then begin to pack your bags, as Commander Skyler will want to leave as soon as
she is done with her visit. Dismissed."

K'etrall watched as the young Ensign turned and left to his post on the
bridge and sat back and returned to her Diet Pepsi and thought to herself,
they just keep getting younger and younger every year.
