<USS Avalon> The Surprise

The Surprise

Keith was reading one of the PADDs that had come his way from Senior 
Lieutenant White Feather the Acting XO.  He looked around, at the busy bridge 
crew and 
decided now might not be the best time, but was any time good.
 
Reading the reports, and busy with the continuous scans, Anthony didn't 
notice much of the crew. They were drowned out to a point where he could almost 
hear his own music that sang above the people and the constant bleeping of the 
consoles.
 
"Ensign Manson, would you please join me in the Executive Officer's Office, 
there is something that has come to my attention."  Keith stood and walked 
towards the office door.  "Ensign Shimbrodus, you have the bridge."
 
He looked up, but nearly didn't. Thank the heavens for small blessing, "Yes 
sir." Nodding to another officer, he walked away from his station and headed 
towards the office.
 
Keith walked around the desk and sat down, he re-read the PADD to make sure 
that the information was correct.  "Mr. Manson, rumor has it that you’ve been 
on the Avalon for the past few months."
 
Anthony looked up, "Yes sir. I have."
 
Keith continued, "And it appears that you have come out of your shell a 
little.  Your time on your previous ship denotes that you were withdrawn and 
didn't 
acclimate much.  I am glad to see that has changed on the Avalon."
 
"Yes sir...some what."
 
"Good.  And I have read reports from Commander Skyler, Commander Sierra and 
Senior Lieutenant White Feather that advise me that you are doing your job 
quite well."
 
Anthony gave a small smile, "I'm glad they like me work output," suddenly 
feeling uncomfortable, "Sir, did I do something wrong?"
 
"Well, you have done everything as it is to be expected, but in the future I 
am going to require you to be better than expected.  And at this point, you 
leave me no choice but to do this.  Anthony Manson, by the power entrusted to 
me 
by the Admiralty, I hereby promote you to the rank of Junior Lieutenant, with 
all the rights and privileges therein."  Keith walked around the desk and 
pins the extra black pip on his collar.
 
"Thank you, sir..." He couldn't help but smile a little wider
 
"Now, get back to work, there is a lot to be done."  Keith smiled also, as 
they walked back to the bridge.  Before Keith fully leaves the office, “Mr. 
Shimbrodus, can you spare a moment also?”  Keith loved giving promotions.
