<USS Avalon> The Party (Part 3)

Part 3

Nerys has accepted his proposal, now, the last of his planned events is at
hand. Karg opens the little box. Inside is a glorious ring. Four of the guests
step up behind Karg in a prearranged formation. Joseph, Karg’s uncle and
revered shaman is the first to speak. "The turquoise is from the Kingman mine
in
Arizona on Earth. We believe there is great power in wearing the blue stone."
Next is Worf, "The red heart is a Klingon Blood Ruby. It is said to carry
part of the soul of he who gives it."
Then Kira Aklos, Nerys’ oldest brother speaks, "The large central stone is a
Bajoran White Sapphire. Once it belonged to our grand mother. It has been
hidden for thirty years."
Ben Sisko says, "Thus are the cultures of the two represented as they join to
become one."
The four extend their arms at a 45 degree angle, palms down and says in
unison, "Wear it with our blessings and those of all it represents."
Nerys is crying tears of joy as Karg places the ring on her finger.

Then Karg put his right arm under her knees and rose with the tiny Nerys in
his arms for a glorious kiss. He seemed to glide around the floor with her as
though they were dancing. Everyone present offered their own words of cheer.
Even Worf managed a smile. When Karg is finally able to put her down, one of
the
admirals speaks up. "Allow me to be the first to voice my good wishes to this
obviously happy couple. Here is my wedding present. I officially approve the
transfer of Commander Kira Nerys to the crew of the USS Avalon with no
reduction in grade."
"Thank you sirs, very much."
"It is our pleasure. Star Fleet out."

During the ensuing party, there is plenty of back slapping and well wishing.
Even Cody seemed to know that something good has happened. Both Karg and Kira
have been smiling so much that their faces are starting to hurt. Soon, they
are backing toward the door so that K’Ehneth asks, "Where are you going
little
brother?"
The question gets him an elbow from his mother, "Don't be silly. Where would
you be going?"
