<USS Avalon> The Party (Part 2)

Part 2

As the party progresses Karg notices that there are still 2 people missing 
and asks Worf about them. "They are on the station now and should be here in a 
minute or two."
Nerys asks, "Who else is coming to this party?"
At that moment on DS9 the door to the holo-suite opens and Nerys’ brothers 
enter the room. On the Avalon they appeared so quickly that she was startled 
then ran quickly to their arms. It has been a long time since she has seen 
them. 
It was perhaps the best gift that Karg could give to her.

In just over half an hour, the final element has been added. There is a small 
view screen on the desk in K’Ehloch’s study and several admirals from Star 
Fleet in San Francisco. They have been invited well in advance. Karg then walks 
to the center of the room and holds up his hands for quiet. "may I have your 
attention everyone?" There is quiet immediately as mostly everyone have a 
pretty good idea of what is about to happen. Karg turns to face the Kira 
family. 
"Nerys, we know that your time as a Visiting Officer is coming to en end . . . 
BUT . . . this is not a going-away party. I knew what I had to do, there was 
just so much to do to get it set up. Worf!"

In the holo-suite on DS9, the real Worf tosses a small black object to Karg. 
The real thing is actually hidden on the "arch" on the Avalon and now it sails 
across the room to be caught on-handed by Karg who moves still closer to 
Nerys and kneels on one knee in front of her. She looks a little confused and 
asks, "Why are you . . ." Suddenly Nerys’ hand flies to her mouth, her eyes 
wide 
with surprise as she realizes what is about to happen.

Karg is so happy that he is beaming. There are smiles all around as most 
people consider it a privilege to be present at such an event. Karg I holding 
the 
little box in front of him now. "Everything happens quickly for us doesn't it? 
Nerys, I never dreamed that I could love anyone this completely. I never 
dared hope that a woman as incredible as you are, would come into my life and 
want 
to stay for even a little while. I must tell you that I am overwhelming happy 
and I hope that you feel the same. So . . ." (nervous breath) "Are you ready? 
Kira Nerys, will you marry me?"

There is a murmur from the crowd then silence as they listen intently for the 
answer. With a tear filled smile she says, "Well, I don't know. Let me 
think."
Everyone thinks this a vastly funny except Karg. He can take a joke but his 
answer is so important that he cannot enjoy the moment as he might. Nerys looks 
at the Emissary, recalling his prophecy in the chapel on DS9. She nods to him 
and sits on Karg’s knee, putting her arms around his neck. Tiny rivulets of 
tears begin to flow down her face.

"Darling, this is the first time in my life that anyone has wanted to make 
the final commitment. It is also the first time that I felt that I was more 
important than the relationship to anyone. You make me laugh. You make me feel 
that there is more to us that passion. I can tell that the best is yet to be. 
So, 
my answer is . . ." She leans close to his ear and whispers, "Yes."

Karg leans back a little to look in her face and says, "I'm sorry, I couldn't 
quite hear."
A little louder she says, "Yes!"
Putting his hand to his ear and referring to the admirals on the viewer, he 
looks for one more response.
Kira yells, "YES!"

Hurrah!
