<USS Avalon> The Nosey Delegate

The Nosey Delegate

by Senior Lieutenant Anthony Manson

"I don?t see why it is such a breach of protocol to simply allow me and my
fellow colleagues to be aware of the Captain?s current condition." Ambassador
Oonal had stated simply as he followed Lieutenant Manson. Oonal was a short
man, and unlike the majority of the Delegation, he didn?t look intimidating.
His height saved the Lieutenant from getting annoyed, constantly bending his
neck up a little to look at them directly.

If anything, Ambassador Oonal is a corpulent fellow, but he held his body as if
the weight wasn?t an effort. It was an indicator that the Rydyn was well aware
of his body size and had made sure he was fit.

Anthony had found him and several others of the delegation in Conference Room
Three. There was a diplomatic reception, and within moments of the Lieutenant?s
arrival, the reception had come to a close. Oonal was the only delegate whose
quarters were located a deck below, naturally Anthony had to escort him,
"Ambassador, please understand, the Captain?s condition is being kept under
wraps so not as to alarm the Rydyn delegation."

"But by not letting us know, you are doing just what you?re not intending."
Oonal stated simply. They were walking back to the Ambassador?s quarters.

"I assure you Ambassador, everything is taken care of. For the time being,
Commander Skyler will be taking charge of the duration on the way back. Should
you have any concerns, please address them to her. Or Commander Sierra, who is
the second officer."

"Why is he not here then?"

"Both Commanders are busy, Ambassador. Especially since the duties of the
Captain have now been placed upon them." Anthony replied as they turned a
corner. It was the question of the moment at Conference Room Three, and he
could have sworn he already answered the question. They weren?t even at the
turbolift yet, and he already wished the ambassador had kept his inquiries to a
minimum. Anthony was stressed, attitude wearing thin, duties to run, and a
whole delegate that now he had to take care of.

That did it, if he was going to run the delegation, he was going to look for
some help on this situation.

"What happened to Captain Flubb? This change in structure is most peculiar."

"I?m not under orders to reveal that information."

Oonal studied the Lieutenant, "what are you all hiding? If this clearance of
observation was given by Starfleet, is it not the Rydyn?s prerogative and
indeed, interest in knowing how this ship runs and how duties go about. Not
only that, but that was part of the invitation as we take passage upon this
ship."

Manson looked at the Ambassador, "under normal circumstances. These are not
normal circumstances. As far as invitations go, Ambassadors, I?m sure you are
well aware of how things can change- and there is a change."

"So there is something wrong with the Captain."

Manson sighed lightly, "yes, I think that was made clear when I was instructed
to have the entire Delegation secured in their quarters until we make it back
to earth."

Oonal grunted, "well count this Ambassador out. It?s within my duty to see how
this turns out. I officially request as representative of the Rydyn Government
to observe the current situation as it stands."

Anthony shook his head. Which Government, "no, Ambassador Oonal, I?m afraid I
can?t do as you request, I?m not even qualified or authorized to carry out your
request. Orders are orders, and coming from the Captain," referring to Skyler,
"these orders will be carried out."

The doors opened as Oonal stepped out first, "I will not remain in my quarters
just because there is some security, medical- whatever it is- situation you
people can?t handle."

Anthony had heard enough, "you will. Or I will have to call security to stand
by your doors."

"How dare you..."

"Ambassador," the Lieutenant had made emphasis to the title, "under security
protocols and the current conditions of this ship, you will remain in your
quarters. With the exception of the bodyguards but their movement has now been
restricted to attending to your quarters only."

Oonal narrowed his eyes, "for this your Captain will hear of this act of..."

"I?m sure the Captain will be aware of your concerns." Manson looked pass the
Ambassador as the doors of his suite was now in view. Anthony gestured towards
the doors with as much respect as he could muster, "if you please, Ambassador,
stay in your quarters. Thank you." Manson nodded and only left until Oonal had
disappeared into his quarters.

He wasn?t trained in diplomacy. The basics, yes, but this constant complaining,
probing, and diplomatic twist was enough to make Anthony quit all at once.

Definitely in need of help.
