<USS Avalon> The Holodeck---The End Cmdr Skyler & Ensign Bailey

The Holodeck - The End
By: Ensign Michael Bailey & Commander Skyler

Skyler looked at the young ensign and then back at the clear lake, the
fog having lifted a few hours earlier. She had her hands in her jacket
pockets in an attempt to ward off the night chill, yet it helped her to keep
her
mind clear to a certain point anyway. "So Ensign, you think you can help me
with
my problems do you?"

Bailey looked to the Commander with a perked eyebrow and turned more
to face her direction, "Well Commander, honestly, I don't know, but I heard
talking about it, helps in a small part," he smiled genuinely.

"Aren't you afraid of what people might say about you carousing with
an older woman? Not to mention a superior officer on top of that?" Skyler was
becoming most intrigued by this young man. He was unlike any other young ensign
under her command before. Perhaps she was the one who was more worried about
what people would say or think. But if she didn't do something soon she didn't
know what would happen.

The ensign smirked lightly and made a small noise of impressment out
of his nostril's and watched her for a moment, "Are you assuming this is a ploy
to ask you out Commander?". The ensign smiled, the idea did not cross his
mind but he certainly wouldn't count it out in the future.

Skyler was not to say at best shocked by the ensign's comments. "No, I
did not assume anything, nor would I. For one you an ensign and I am your
Commander and if that is what you have in mind then we can end this
conversation
right here and now. Any more talk like that and you can consider your self on
report is that understood?"

Bailey was intrigued, "Calm down, Commander please. It was only a
joke. I am sorry if I offended you, those we're not my intentions." Bailey was
sincere by his comments, defiantly knowing something was eating at the
commander.

"That's all right Ensign, I am just a little on edge as if you
couldn't tell."
Skyler began walking towards the lake. "If I talk to you are you going to
keep it to yourself and swear not to tell anyone else? Because so help me if
someone else finds out it could only come from one person and that would be
you."
Bailey turned to the Commander "I wouldn't do something like that ma'am. I
won't tell anyone else." He followed her as she walked to the lake watching the
water studying it with the wonder of a child in a sense.

Skyler, for some reason felt as though he actually meant what he was
saying. So she was going to take a chance she could only make herself feel
worse then she already does.

"Well, Ensign, have you ever met someone that you knew immediately was
someone you were supposed to be with, and who you thought felt the same way?
But as time went on you discover that this person doesn't feel the same way
you do, but wants to move on in other directions? Unfortunately those
directions
include another person. Then you begin to wonder what it is that you did
wrong or what is wrong with you. What could you have done differently or should
have done differently?"

Bailey looked at her as if he pulled up a painful memory, "Yes, I
have." He turned his eyes back to the lake and spoke to her even though she
didn't
say anything, he knew. "I know how you feel, Commander."

Skyler heard but did not hear what Ensign Bailey had said. She was
engrossed in her own feelings that it took a few minutes for it to register
that
he had spoken. "I don't think anyone can know exactly how anyone else feels in
these types of situations. Especially when you still have to work with the
other person and attempt to maintain a professional relationship, even though
you haven't gotten over your feelings for this person yet," Skyler spoke.
"And it is even harder still when you see that the other person has moved on
and doesn't seem to have a problem with the outcome of the relationship. I
guess that is where or what I am having trouble dealing with. How easy it was
for
this other person to just pick up and move on without a care in the world, as
if nothing had even happened."

Skyler just didn't understand how people could be so so --- rude. Skyler
thought to herself, maybe I am just to naive and expect people to treat others
as
they would want to be treated themselves.

Bailey watched the Commander curiously, being reminded of the horrid
Javan Sierra, as he would do things like that Bailey thought. "Commander,
sometimes things in live happen which cause uncertainties, but in relationships
the
more uncertainties that happen, and the more people you date, the more you
learn Arnet right for you. Tell me, if you were still dating this person, and
know what you do now about this person, would you be happy?"

Skyler thought for a moment and realized that this young man was wise
beyond his years. "No, I wouldn't be happy, nor do I think I would be with
this person. I guess I just need to trust myself more or at least have more
confidence in my own opinion than I do now. As it is now, as for self-esteem
you
could probably blow me over like a twig. There is not much there to hold me up.
I guess you are a good listener."

Bailey smiled at the Commander, "You truly underestimate your own
spirit Commander. Sure, your hurting, but that is love. Love hurts. Do you
think
you should let the pain dominate your own potential and keep you from believing
in your own heart, and your own spirit?"

"Ensign you truly are an amazing person. Older and wiser beyond your
years that is for sure. You have definitely given me a great deal to think
about and I will have the time for thinking when I leave to go and pick up our
new
Operations Officer and take a couple of days to get my mind back where it
belongs. Thank you so much for listening to me and I hope someday I can return
the favor. You truly will make someone a good friend and comrade in arms. I am
glad that you are serving aboard the Avalon and not some other ship. We can
always use good people like you. Again thank you for listening."

Bailey smiled, "Your more than welcome Commander, IM here if you need
a friend." Suddenly his eyes widened. "COMPUTER TIME!" the computer said it
was four hours exactly from when he entered the holodeck. "Sorry Commander, I
must leave. My shift starts in four minutes. With your permission?"

"Permission granted and if anyone gives you a hard time tell them to
come see me."
