<USS Avalon> "The Holodeck" Part 1 Cmdr Skyler & Ensign Bailey

"The Holodeck" Part 1
Written By: Cmdr Skyler & Ensign Bailey

Skyler was in the holodeck running her usual program. You could feel
the humidity in the air coming off the lake. The temperature was cool and damp
with a light mist and a fine fog drifting in off the lake.

It was another one of those days when a fire was going to be needed,
so she went about finding the firewood she would need for her fire for dinner
and to keep warm by. It was always nice to sit by the fire and stare at the sky
and just looked at the stars and try and find the different constellations.
Sometimes she just laid there and tried to let her mind wander. That is what
she was doing when she thought she heard the entrance to the holodeck "whoosh"
open.

Ensign Bailey entered the holodeck. He looked around and saw Commander
Skyler and noticed she was running a program. He wanted to kill whoever was
running the holodeck, as it told him no simulation was running.

Bailey of course bowed in respect to the Commander and apologized "I
am sorry Commander, I think the holodeck is malfunctioning. It told me no
simulation was running." He starts to turn letting her be with her privacy.

Skyler looked up to see the Ensign start to turn, "You don't have to
leave if you don't want to? I am just here relaxing for a while. It helps to
clear my mind when I need to think about different things."

Bailey nodded in response and walked over to her taking a seat beside
the Commander he looked at her curiously and sensed pain coming from her soft
loving eyes, "Are you okay, Commander?"

Skyler wasn't sure how to react to the ensign's comment. No one had
ever asked her a question such as that before. She wasn't quite sure how to
answer it. "Yes, Ensign I am as well as can be expected. Thank you for your
concern. I hope all is well with you?" She was starting to shiver a little so
she
stood and started to head towards the wood pile to gather some more wood for
the
fire. She planned on being here for a while.

Bailey stood and followed the Commander, "I am well, I can say that
much ma'am. You seem a bit occupied in your thoughts, is there anything you
wish
to talk about? I got a reputation for being a listener." He smiled.

Now Skyler was confused. She wanted someone to talk to, but she wasn't
sure how appropriate it was to be confiding in a junior officer. Especially
one who was just an ensign. "It is true I am pre-occupied, but I don't know how
appropriate it would be for me to discuss my personal feelings with a junior
officer such as yourself. No offense intended. I'm sure you are a great
listener. So I am sure you can see the quandary that I am in at the moment?"

Bailey gave a smirk of understanding "I may be junior in rank, it
doesn't mean I am junior in maturity. Do understand I had a life before
Starfleet.
I've come to know things and see things in people. I may be an ensign but I
am also a great person to talk too. Besides nobody has to know of our
conversation. Consider it confidential."

Skyler looked at the young ensign and noticed how kind he looked. She
started thinking to herself that perhaps maybe she could talk to him. It would
mean opening herself up again and so soon after the last time and she just
after the last time and she just didn't know if she was ready for that just yet.

It was all a matter of appearances, and it was one that she was going
to have to get used to if she was going to continue on with the Avalon.
