<USS Avalon> "The Great Escape" Part 2 Cmdr Skyler, Dr. Moreya, & Cpt Ketchum

Commander Skyler & Doctor Moreya & Captain Ketchum

Skyler had gotten permission from Keith to take the shuttle for a few
days. It would actually serve two purposes, 1) she would deliver the message
to Captain Offenburger about the alien on the Allegiance and Captain valQis
Kat and her crew and 2) Skyler would get the chance to talk to Moreya, who
seemed to be the only one who fully understood the situation. It would be nice
to
see her again. She had talked to Georgia and already had a fresh pecan pie
ready to take with her.

Skyler had her bags packed, and had checked the shuttle out and was
ready to go. She made one last stop to see the Captain before she left to see
if
he had anything special he wanted her to tell Captain Offenburger.

She stowed her gear on the shuttle and then returned to Keith's
office. When she entered he was still going over his pile of PADD's and they
didn't seem to be getting any smaller.

"Sir, I am ready to depart and wanted to check with you to see if
there was anything else you wanted me to tell Captain Offenburger?"

"Just tell him, I am taking his information under advisement. He will
understand."

Three days out from Cardassia Prime, Moreya was surprised to receive a
message that a shuttle from the Avalon was inbound, its passenger looking to
meet with her.

She had been concerned that Commander Skyler was still upset over an
abrupt breakup with one of the Avalon's other officers, but after Moreya had
been
suddenly transferred to the Blackwell, she hadn't had much time to think about
it. Certainly she hadn't expected to hear from Skyler again so soon.

She headed down to the docking bay to greet the arriving shuttle.

Skyler had taken the runabout RA Genevieve-NCC-27936-B/2 for her mission.
She had stopped at the Southland long enough to give the information to
Captain Offenburger to pass on to Starfleet Command. Now she had sometime to
herself. She was currently on her way to catch up to the USS Blackwell, where
Dr.
Moreya was stationed.

The RA Genevieve had docked with the Blackwell and Skyler had shut down
all major systems. She entered the airlock and waited for to cycle so that she
could enter the Blackwell. Once it finished it's cycling, the doors opened and
Skyler saw Dr. Moreya standing there waiting for her.

The first thing Skyler did was hand the good doctor a special package. "I
don't know what makes you so special, but before I left I was given strict
orders to make sure that this arrived in tack without a piece missing. You have
no idea how hard it was to keep from disobeying those orders. I would have
been shot when I returned. " Skyler actually laughed for the first time in
quite
some time. It was actually a good feeling.

quite some time. It was actually a good feeling.

Moreya laughed as well. "Come back to my office, we can sit and talk --
and carve off a slice of this for you."

Once settled in Moreya's office -- little more than a cubicle with room
for a
desk and guest chair, but dominated by an enormous Boston fern hanging from
the ceiling -- Moreya cut two slices of pie and offered one to Skyler. "What
brings you out to the Blackwell, Commander?"

Skyler sat in Moreya's small yet cozy office, eating a piece of
Georgia's pecan pie, finally starting to relax. It was the first time in weeks
that
she had been able to relax and not have to worry about anything.

After taking a sip of her Diet Pepsi, she felt comfortable enough to
start talking to Moreya. "Well, I am sure you have some idea of why I am here.
It
of course has to do with Javan. I had to get away for a while to clear my
mind and I couldn't think of anywhere or anyone to go see or talk to besides
you,
so here I am. I hope I am not intruding?"

"Not at all," the Deltan answered with a smile. "We still have a few
days
before we reach Cardassia Prime, and I am taking a break from my simulator
training.

"What is happening with you and Javan? I presume that he still wants
nothing to do with you, on a personal level. That is very hard, especially
after things were so close, and so intense."

"You presume correctly. In fact, he has taken up with the new
counselor. The last time I saw them, they were getting along famously. Which is
what I
don't understand? Being a full Betazoid he must know how I feel and what this
is doing to me so why is he doing it. Is it me, did I do something wrong?
What went wrong? I stayed by his side when he almost died, I took care of him
until he recovered. I thought everything was going great and then one day it's
sorry Skyler, but I don't think this is the way I want my life to go. Does that
make sense to you, because it sure as hell doesn't make any sense to me?"

The more Skyler thought about it the more frustrating it got. Maybe she
should just block him from her mind and forget anything ever happened. That
would be easier said than done. Maybe Moreya would have an idea on the subject.

"You wouldn't happen to have any type of mind blocking technique or
agent I could use to keep me from thinking about him, would you?"

"For better or worse," Moreya said, "the only agent that can keep you
from
thinking about Javan is yourself. I can teach you some techniques that can
help, but there's a couple of decisions you'll need to make first.

"The first thing is for you to accept that Javan's decision to end this
was all his. It has nothing to do with you, and it isn't your fault. You
didn't do
anything wrong. Maybe he does understand the effect it's having on you.
Maybe not. But you need to accept that he made his choice. You can't
control it."

Moreya frowned. This was the sort of thing the Avalon's counselor
should have been helping Skyler with. But if she had taken up with Javan ...
Moreya
suppressed an irritated snort. Personally, she thought both Javan and the
Avalon's counselor needed a spanking. But that wouldn't help Skyler.

"The second thing -- once you've done the first -- is to let him go.
He's not
coming back -- so let him go, and don't let the thoughts of 'why did he go?'
and 'what if he comes back?' torture you. Because that's all it's doing,
and
you don't deserve that."

She looked across at Skyler. "Am I making sense so far? Do you think
you can do these things? Understand that it may well take some time, and
more than one try. But I can promise you this: the pain will go away in time,
if you give
it a chance."

Skyler thought for a moment, thinking over what Moreya had said and the
more she thought about it the more she realized how much of a fool she had
been. She should have let go of Javan a long time ago. It was obvious that
there
wasn't going to be a relationship now or at any point in the future.

"Moreya, I knew there was a good reason that I chose to come here,
other than to pick up our new OPS officer. Everything you have said makes
sense.
It won't be easy, but it is something that has to be done. I will do it, but
don't be surprised it you get a subspace message or two........

Skyler hugs Moreya and promises to keep in touch. "Thank you so much
for the advice and for sharing you Pecan Pie. You wait until I see Georgia
again." Both women laugh as they walk to the Captains office where Skyler is to
go
and request the transfer of Ensign Manson.
