<USS Avalon> The Doctor of DS9

The Doctor of DS9
by Junior Lieutenant Phillipa Waterson

Phillipa walked from the Avalon onto the Promenade of Deep Space Nine. It
was bigger than she thought. At least the pictures didn't do it justice.

Once she knew they were coming, she had called for an appointment with the
station doctor. Believing what might of happened and just didn't want to
involve the ships doctors with it right now.

She walked along the Promenade and finally saw the medical offices.

Entering in, she took a seat and waited. Finally a Bajoran medic comes out
and sees her, "Ah, Lieutenant Waterson, I presume?"

"Yes, Ensign."

"Come on back the doctor will see you now."

She stood and headed back to the exam room. Sitting on the edge of the
biobed the doctor came in.

She explained the situation to him. He nodded and had her lay back.

Finally, after several tests, he looked at her, and gave her the news.

"Triplets... what do you mean Triplets?"

The doctor explained.

"I can't... how am I supposed to tell the father this? I can't even be sure
who the father is."

"Do you have ideas on that?" The doctor quizzed.

"Perhaps, one that it could be."

"We can run a quick test to check the DNA, very quick and painless, if you
think you know."

She nodded, and whispered the name to him, "Keith Ketchum."

The doctor did not show any signs of astonishment, but ran the test. After
a few minutes, he came back, "According to the tests, the match for him to be
the father is about 62%. It is unlikely that he is the father, but perhaps
a close relative of his."

Her eyes grew to the size of saucers, though she was relieved on one count,
the other thought was just as crazy. She stood and walked from the room
after asking that just the pre-natal information be forwarded and nothing
dealing
with the DNA testing.

The doctor understood completely.
