<USS Avalon> The Ceremony for the Fallen

The Ceremony for the Fallen
by Captain Keith Ketchum

The Captain had called the service in Holodeck One. Dress uniforms were
requested to honor the fallen. The scene in the holodeck was that of the deck
of
a sailing vessel in the early 19th century. The name on the hull read
‘Avalon’
.

I know your life on earth was troubled
And only you could know the pain
You weren't afraid to face the devil
You were no stranger to the rain.

This duty was not a revered or even a wanted duty, and normally if this had
been any other circumstance he would not be performing it, but rather writing a
letter to the family, which he would still end up doing to the families of
the dead.

Go rest high on that mountain
Son your work on earth is done
Go to heaven a-shoutin'
Love for the Father and the Son

“On this mission, the Avalon has lost the largest number of crew, since she
was commissioned originally. When there were no letters after her call
number.”

Oh, how we cried the day you left us
We gathered round your grave to grieve
Wish I could see the angels' faces
When they hear your sweet voice sing

“These men and women were our colleagues and friends… they were our family.

They will be missed. I have thought long and hard as to what would be done
with the bodies, as the spirits have moved on to a higher plan: Sto-vo-kor,
Sha-ka-re, Heaven, and the many other places for the honored dead.”

Go rest high on that mountain
Son, your work on earth is done
Go to heaven a-shoutin'
Love for the Father and the Son.

“So now, I commend their bodies to the space that we have traveled.” Keith
nodded and what could be heard was the probes containing their bodies being
launched.

Go to heaven a-shoutin'
Love for the Father and the Son.
