<USS Avalon> "The Capture," Part 2 Cmdr Skyler & Ensign Cate

"The Capture," Part 2

Cmdr Skyler & Ensign Cate

Skyler looked at Lt. Cate. Actually, she was more than a little
shocked at hearing the fate of the crew, and also to see that there just might
be a
little bit of remorse in this person. Perhaps there was still a chance for all
of them, just perhaps.

"For someone with orders to kill us, you certainly don't seem to eager
to do so. What's the matter, the taste of spilled blood sour your skills?"

Why Skyler kept pushing this woman, she didn't know. Was it because
she saw something in her that made Skyler think that she could be salvaged? Was
it because this woman actually showed some emotions and concern regarding
others? She just didn't have the answer, but something told her not to give up.

How far did she dare push this person?

Lyryn looked at Skyler, understanding her anger at the injustice of it
all.   She wasn't particularly fond of the job, either, but what could she do?

Sighing, Lyryn replied in her usually quiet voice, "There is nothing
wrong with my skills.  The taste of spilled blood has soured my reasons for
living."

Lyryn wasn't sure why she confessed such a thing to this woman.
Perhaps it was knowing that she would soon die, whether either of them wanted
it to
happen or not.   There was an earnest, but resigned look upon her face as she
rose to her feet.

"Well, I suppose we should get on with this."

"What's the rush? You got a date with someone or something? I'm actually
in no hurry to die and you don't exactly look like you are too eager to do
any killing just yet, so why not just sit here and talk? Tell me about
yourself.
Better yet, tell me about this time and what happened to the Federation and
why it is wrong for us to be here."

Skyler was trying to buy as much time as possible so that someone,
anyone, would come to their aid. In the meantime, she had managed to loosen the
bonds that were holding her hands behind her back. She just needed a few more
minutes and then this wench had better watch out. She wasn't going to know what
hit her. At least she could buy some time to allow Phillipa a chance to get
away.

Lyryn smiled wryly at Skyler. "First of all," she began, pointing her
phaser at the bound up prisoner, "Stop wriggling around.  Those are very good
knots, but they can be loosened.  If you attack me, I will be forced to stun
you again and we both know that is not pleasant.  Secondly, I told you that I
would see that your deaths are merciful.  Do you always taunt the people who
hold the ability to torture you?  I could always bring Brin back and turn a
blind
eye, you know."  Her calm, whispery voice had risen a decibel level and she
was obviously getting irritated.  For a moment, her light green eyes flashed a
deeper color and it seemed as if Skyler were actually getting to her.

Skyler stopped moving and Lyryn continued as she began pacing, "The way
I see it, there is no point in my telling you about this time.  You don't
belong here and you won't live here long enough for it to matter."  She paused,
her voice dropping back to it's usual quiet calm. "Let's stop this pointless
chatter.  It is time to go."

Pointless chatter. This woman was certainly tougher than she looked.
Skyler was going to have to find another way of getting to her. Her bonds were
definitely getting looser, the question was how fast was Skyler and how quick
was the response of Lt. Cate?

"Look, I don't want to die and I don't think you really want to kill
me or anyone else. Can't we come to some sort of compromise about this?"

~~Thinking to herself, where the hell is security or somebody,
anybody? ~~

Skyler looked at Phillipa who wasn't looking too good. "At least let
her go. She is of no use to you.  Let her go and you can do as you want with
me. I won't try anything. (Yet, she thought)

She looked at her captor for any kind of sympathy. She thought she saw a
glimmer of hope in the eyes of this woman. Maybe there was still a possibility
for saving the lives of the Avalon.
Lyryn looked at the woman on the floor.  What audacity!
"Of course I have no use for her.  I have no use for you, either. That is
why all of you are going to die."  And with that, the Lt. left the room.

Now that Lt Cate was gone, Skyler hurriedly released her bonds and
undid those of Phillipa. Using her command codes, she over rode the new ones
that
had been put in place and managed to open the room they were in.

"Phillipa, I want you to go and find some help. I will stay here and
do want I can to subdue this wench. Make sure you tell Mehdi that I am fine and
let the Captain know what is going on."

With that said, Phillipa left the room and took off in search of help.
Skyler, meanwhile used what ever she could find to use as weapon. The only
thing she could find was a piece of old piping. Grabbing that she hid behind
the
door.

Shortly thereafter, Lt. Cate returned only to find what appeared to be
an empty room. The next thing she knew when she woke up was that she was now
the one on the floor with her hands bound behind her, as well as her feet. She
also had a bandage wrapped around her head to staunch the flow of blood from
where she had been hit by Skyler with the pipe.

"So, how does it feel to be the captive instead of the captor?"
