<USS Avalon> The Away Team Skyler, Winters, Khellian, & Bailey

The Away Team
By Commander Skyler, Lieutenant Junior Grade Diana Winters,
Ensign Summer Khellian, and Ensign Michael Bailey

Skyler had returned to the bridge and discovered that an away team was needed
to go over to the Allegiance to try and get some of the onboard systems
working again. Systems like navigation's control, communications and other
systems.
Before Skyler would send anyone over to the Allegiance they would have to go
with a security officer.

For this mission she decided to use Ensign Khellian from Avalon's engineering
department and Ensign Michael Bailey, from security. They would be working
with Lieutenant Junior Grade Diane Winters, Acting Chief engineer of the
Allegiance.

“Ensign Khellian, Ensign Michael Bailey, and Lieutenant Junior Grade Winters
please report to the XO's ready room. Please report as soon as possible.
Skyler out” Now all she had to do was wait for them to arrive.

Skyler stood and headed toward her ready room but before she got all the way
there she informed Waterson that she had the bridge. She then entered her
office and fixed her Diet Pepsi and waited for the others to arrive.

Diana heard the call for her to report to the ready room. She had enjoyed
her stay on the Avalon; things were defiantly run differently on this ship.
She
had quietly snuck into their Engine room during the past few night shifts to
have a look around, and found some quite interesting changes they had made for
efficiencies to the engines.

Skyler was getting impatient, because everyone was taking so long in
answering her page. If they continued at this pace they would never get
anything up
and running. This was causing her to get a tad bit irritated.

For the second time she was going to have to overhead page them all again.
Maybe this time they would respond. She really didn't want to have to go to
each
department and drag them out in front of everyone. She thought they were more
mature than that. Perhaps she was mistaken..

“Ensign Khellian, Ensign Michael Bailey, and Lieutenant Junior Grade Winters
please report to the XO's ready room. Please report as soon as possible.
Skyler out.”

Hopefully she would get some reaction out of somebody with that page. Now she
would continue to wait, again. She would have to replicate some more Diet
Pepsi at this rate......

The second page brought Diana out of her revelry, she walked to a computer
panel and tapped it, “Commander Skyler, this is Lieutenant Junior Grade Diana
Winters, I am on my way.”

Diana headed towards the Turbolift and entered quickly, Bridge. Diana
learned to move quickly, since the turbolift doors on the Allegiance usually
closed
too quickly.

They also moved a lot slower on the Allegiance, so when the doors opened on
the Bridge, she was surprised. She walked towards the Commander's office and
rang the chime.

Summer wiped the sweat off her forehead onto the back of her uniform sleeve.
The Chief Engineer liked to keep her busy, which was fine by her. Between her
shifts and trying to keep with the engineering reports for the Allegiance she
was lucky if she had time to think. Summer opened her tricorder and scanned
the conduit she was working on. “Finally.” She snapped the tricorder shut
and
replaced the wall panel.

Summer gathered up her toolbox and crawled her way out of the Jeffries Tubes.
She was amazed how well she knew the Avalon, and before Summer knew it she
was lowering herself onto the floor.

Summer stepped onto the turbolift. “Main Engineering.” The turbolift slowly
came to life and was humming silently as it moved. Without warning Commander
Skyler came over the comm.

“Ensign Khellian, Ensign Bailey, and Lieutenant Junior Grade Winters please
report to the XO's ready room. Please report as soon as possible. This is your
final call before I come to each department and get you personally and I
assure you that you don't want me to do that. Skyler out.”

“Stop turbolift.” Summer grabbed the hand rail as the turbolift suddenly
jerked to a stop. “Cancel destination. Deck one. Resume Turbolift.” This
time
Summer was prepared as the turbolift jerked once more.

Summer was drumming her fingers on her toolbox trying to figure out when
Commander Skyler had called for her the first time. She probably never heard it
over her repair work. Summer was trying to figure out what the Commander wanted
her urgently for when the turbolift came to stop, this time smoothly.

She was beginning to hate the turbolifts more and more. They had to be the
most temperamental thing aboard the Avalon, at least in her opinion. “After
we
repair the Allegiance I am going to talk to the Chief about getting those
cursed things fixed.”

Summer was pressing the doorbell to Commander Skyler's office when she
realized how much of a mess she was. As she awaited the Commander's response
she was
hoping in the back of her mind that whatever she was being summoned for it
would allow her to at least get a shower or change her uniform.

Skyler heard the chime and replied, “Enter,” She remained at her desk as
she
heard the doors opened. She looked up and saw that Ensign Khellian and
Lieutenant Junior Grade Winters had both arrived at the same time. She was now
waiting for Ensign Bailey.

“Ladies please have a seat. As soon as Mr. Bailey arrives I can discuss what
this meeting is all about. Well, actually since you are both engineer's I can
go ahead and tell you about the mission. Mr. Bailey is going along as
Security. Your mission is to go aboard the Allegiance and get as many of her
systems
up and running as possible. That includes navigational systems, communications,
engines, if possible, and gather as much information from the computer as
possible. Any information you can gather will be of great help. The more
information we can get the more help we can be in getting the Allegiance up and
running again.

I am sending a security officer along with you so that you have some
protection. I don't want anyone to take any unnecessary chances. Just go get
your work
done and get back here as soon as possible.”

Bailey was asleep, he just got off his shift and was just drifting off when
he heard the second and final page, he jumped suddenly and tapped his comm
badge and spoke groggily “Ensign Bailey here, be there in a minute
Commander.”

Bailey got out of his PJ's he didn't put on but only 10 minutes before and
changed back into his uniform, he hurried and combed his hair and entered the
turbolift “Deck 1” he ordered. He exited the turbolift and rang the chimes
to
Commander Skyler’s office.

The door chime rang just as Skyler was finishing up her mission briefing to
the other two team members. ”Enter”

The doors opened to her office and in walked Ensign Michael Bailey. His hair
was a little mussed and he looked like he had just gotten out of bed. But at
least he had finally made it.

“Well Ensign, so nice of you to show up for this meeting. If you would please
have a seat I will explain what your mission is. Then perhaps we can get this
away team going.”

She watched as the Ensign sat down and got himself situated. Now that
everyone was present she began to repeat the mission brief.

“Okay for the second time today, your mission is to go over to the Allegiance
and get as many systems up and running as possible. That includes
navigational systems, communications, and engines if possible, and gather as
much
information from the computer as possible. Any information you can gather will
be of
great help.

The more information we can get the more help we can be in getting the
Allegiance up and running again. I am sending a security officer along with you
so
that you have some protection. I don't want anyone to take any unnecessary
chances. “

She looked around at the faces of the away team, wondering what they were
thinking. She had a fleeting thought of going with them, but it was only a
fleeting thought. She had other business to take care of. She was heading for
the
USS Blackwell to talk to Dr. Moreya and bring back the new Operations officer.

Diana turned and looked at both of her companions for this mission, “I think
our primary duty is to try to get the engines working, and then go from
there.”

As they sat finishing up their meeting, the comm sounded, “Ketchum to
Skyler.”

“Go ahead, Sir, I was just prepping the Engineering away team to the
Allegiance.”

“Very good, they will need to use EVA suits with helmets set for heat
recognition and it wouldn’t be a bad idea to set a tricorder for weather
scans”,
Keith advised from the information that Karg had provided.

Diana looked around, “Weather scans?”

“Yes, according to our resident Tactical officer and I quote, the creature is
big, it’s gotta move a lot of air.”

“I see”, Diana looked down at her PADD that she was making notes on. “I
think it’s best to get a good sleep, and we’ll shove off at 0900 hours.”

"Well, people you have your orders so I suggest that you do as Lt Winters has
suggested and you get some sleep. You are going to have to be on your best
guard and I want you all coming back alive and in one piece. I don't think the
doctor would appreciate it if you came back in several different pieces. So on
that note Crew Dismissed and good luck."

Skyler watched as they all left her office and headed toward their individual
destinations to prepare for the mission each in their own way. She hoped that
she hadn't made a mistake in choosing the people that she had chosen. She sat
in her office for a while, drinking a Diet Pepsi trying to relax before
returning to her spot on the bridge.
