<USS Avalon> That One Lucky Star

That One Lucky Star

by Anthony Manson and Alder Shimbrodus

It was programmed, of course. All of it was. But that was good. Reality taken
away and living out something only imagined. How the star- that one lucky star-
streaked across the night sky filled with other blinking stars, all in
different sizes and frequency of which it glowed. Reality tossed away like a
faded dream, it felt so good to be lying down on a bed of gentle grass and look
up to the night and.. Smile.

Anthony shifted slightly, the grass tickling his back. He never got it right.
There was always a certain way to sit on it, and each time, those tiny soft
blades would get to him. It tickled.

It felt nice.

Tonight was one of those quiet nights he and Alder shared. Anthony liked it for
it?s peace. Alder liked it on the view. On other occasions, this entire setting
would be on another planet. Bolarus, Alpha Centauri. It didn?t matter. All that
was needed was an open landscape, the night view, and all was alright. Don?t
forget the special someone, and it gave every reason to live for a dream.

Anthony shifted closer to Alder. The two had stared into the night talking,
falling silent, only to talk again. It didn?t matter what was discussed. It was
a great time for both of them to spend time with each other and not worry about
their lives as Starfleet Officers. That life didn?t exist in these nights.

Somewhere in the conversation, Anthony decided to ask. He knew the answer, but
he just wanted to hear it. More Alder?s voice, really. "What are you thinking?"

"It?s doesn?t have five moons here, but it is really nice," Alder said with
light playful smirk as he looked at Anthony. "This is...."

"Ktaria," Anthony answered with a smile of his own.

"Nice," Alder said with a nod.

The quietness crept in for a few moments. The two had shifted about again with
Alder laying his head on Anthony?s abdomen. Their fingers playing about without
thinking.

"Nice to be out here in space."

"You think so?"

"Yeah, you get to see everything that comes your way. You?re not stuck on a
planet. And you can explore as far as you can get."

"Anthony," Alder turned to look at him.

"Yeah?"

"You think we?ll ever settle down some place?"

"I don?t know. I like how things are now. Rather not change it."

"And us getting married?"

Anthony smiled and replied with no hesitation, "best thing for us."

That smiled was returned with a grin as Alder sat up and planted a light kiss
across Anthony?s lips. Alder?s hand traced those light spots on Anthony?s skin
as Alder kept his lips on Anthony?s, gently demanding more as that one star
streaked by, and all the blinking ones danced across the night sky.
