<USS Avalon> Taking Action

Taking Action
by Colonel Alder Shimbrodus

The General wasn't around. It had been a mild ten minutes of exchanging fire,
but the Avalon was clearly dominating the battle. Risans were weak, xenophobic,
and scavengers of the better parts of the Alpha Quadrant. Alder firmly believed
they all should be wiped out as the war long as the war dragged on.

"Evasive action, take us around them and target their engines!" Alder barked as
the ship was rocked again by heavier fire then before. "Tactical, report!"

"We have three new Risan ships coming from the other side of the planet. They
have been masking themselves, shall I target?"

Alder didn't recognize the voice, nor did he have any intention to care about
who the person was, "of course," he hissed as he looked at the screen, "what
sorta of idiot would ask such a question? Helm! Come about, arm torpedoes!"

"Armed, and targeted."

"Fire." Twin miniature stars shot out of the Avalon's bay and cut through
space. The impact went through the first Risan warship. It's hull seared as the
torpedo incinerated everything in it's path. Having it's engines hit as well,
the ship lost control and slammed into the accompanying ship.

"Target the last one," Alder said with a predatory smile, "Aim for engines, and
then life support. I want them adrift."

It was done without hesitation as the retreating Risan warship was struck, thin
lances or orange energy cutting through it's nacelles and then another hitting
it's weapons systems. One more torpedo shot, and the explosive slammed into the
shield generators, making a visible flare as it destroyed the system.

"Excellent," Alder said as he stood up with hands behind his back. He slowly
walked down to the helm station, "what do the sensors say about the ship?"

"The ship is completely disabled. Their life support systems are failing. They
would, or could, send out a distress signal, but it's faint and barely picking
up on our sensors."

"Good, let them suffocate. That will show them that we dont tolerate
sympathizers. Or traitors for that matter." Alder's sudden annoyance with the
klaxons made him shout, making others on the bridge jump, "someone shut that
fucking alarm off!"

Red Alert was over with, and Alder went back to sitting on the General's chair.
The man's absence in the face of danger could be Alder's chance to secure his
opportunity to command this ship. But the General was no fool, and all attempts
to gain the position by bringing down the commanding officer had proved
fruitless. So far. This one incident had given the young Colonel the
opportunity he had been waiting for.

With a twisted smile that didn't fit well to his facial features, he commanded
the ship away from the Risa system.

"But our orders..."

Alder cut the ensign off, complete with a glare that she had question him,
"we'll exterminate them later. I want to be able to think exactly how we would
do it."
