Systematic Lockout
by Lieutenant Anthony Manson
Noise. That was all he could hear as his fingers blazed throughout the console.
But his fingers weren?t the only one blazing through consoles. In the heart of
the ship, people of all different ranks and departments raced around
engineering barking orders and filling out commands. Main bridge- the brain of
this vessel- had been taken. Reports were coming in that sensors had indicated
more than three people occupied the bridge. This was where Anthony could get
some things done. Crucial things. The brain of this fine vessel could be turned
against them, and Anthony had no intention of letting that happen. They were
locked out, but five hundred years of advanced technology would certainly break
its locks like a toothpick.
Alder had already busied himself with the ships sensors, navigational, and
deflector controls. Anthony?s attitude toward him had suddenly changed with the
current circumstances. It was different, but no matter, there were things to
get done instead of subtle talk. Anthony?s focus was on the power distribution
to the bridge, internal and external communications, and all other major
systems like weapon access, environmental, and common or restricted command
codes that could be used in any way against them.
Anthony had to admit- he wasn?t skilled in getting the various fields locked
out and encrypted. He wasn?t all that good at it, but he did know at least a
few to buy them more time. More resistance to the enemy that seemed
unrelenting.
Alder was suddenly next to him, "I?ve got the deflectors locked out last from
the bridge, but I need you to check it." Anthony simply nodded as his fingers
did multiple tasks of getting the systems locked out.
Within moments he finished what he intended, and had Alder check is lock out-
and add his own. He assumed that with Alder?s own way of getting systems locked
out, it would buy more time with the added confusion, "get an encryption that
is completely different. Make it...oh...three hundred different characters or
so. Anything to confuse them." Alder simply nodded as he redoubled Anthony?s
work- and Anthony did the same.
About a few minutes later found Anthony on another console accessing life
support, transporters, replicators, any sort of engineering control, and the
computer core. He?ll need the captain to help lock the computer core out since
he didn?t have the authority.
All systems were locked out from the bridge, and the auxiliary bridge. Checking
that he still had a phaser to himself, he looked at another console, another
system to lock out.
