Surprises
Anthony and Alder Shimbrodus
and
Elissabeth Marksbury
Elissabeth smiled as she watched the station come into view. And as they came
around orbit, she saw the Avalon docked. Her heart beat a brighter rhythm at
the sight. Home...
She quickly exited her quarters and made her way to the transporter room. Lissi
had told Alexis earlier that she had business to attend to that she'd see her
aboard Avalon later. Business, she thought, Well, business named Bryce.
Elissabeth couldn't wait to see him. Absence had indeed made the heart grow
fonder.
Reappearing on the station itself, she didn't even take the time to look
around, but instead hurried through the promenade on her way home.
Alder spotted her. The woman was on a one way course with a brisk pace that
challenged anyone that would get in her way. He nudged Anthony a little, who
pondered at the sight of a jamja stick. He looked away from the sugar filled
treat and called out with a grin, "Marks!"
It took a moment to register the voice, but it stopped her in her tracks and
Elissabeth turned in search of Anthony. A broad grin lit her face as she
crossed through a small sea of people to get to him and Alder. Expertly dodging
the sugary snack, she slid into a tight embrace.
Anthony let the hug go for a moment and then looked at her, "Walk any faster,
Marks, I'll have to put you in the tournament for Velocity. You'd be my prized
winner." He winked a little. "We were looking around, got time to spare?"
Her face didn't register the conflict of indecision as she thought about the
offer. "I always have time for you. And we should play Velocity. Give me a
chance to officially kick your ass," she smirked.
"Yeah, you're showing it alright. You look good. Besides, anyone can kick
Anthony's ass at Velocity." Alder commented with a smile, the trio now walking
through the promenade.
"Tell me every single thing I missed. Since I didn't get any letters," she
glared playfully.
"Oh, you know, same shit, different day," Anthony responded but then smiled,
"I?m transferring to the U.S.S. Omen. You saw that Nebula class starship,
right?" He waited for Marksbury to nod, "Yeah, meet the XO of the ship, and
their Department head," he gestured with his head to Alder.
That news suprised her more than a little, though she chose not to show it.
"Impressive," she smiled. "I believe congratulations are in order."
"Thanks for the vote of confidence," Anthony said with a playful smile knowing
Marks was hiding more than she showed. He didn't mind, in different positions,
Anthony would've done the same.
"Might wanna consider transferring? I hear they need a security officer too."
"You know I could never leave the Avalon," she said quietly. "Though it won't
be the same without you."
"Ditto," Anthony replied, "I thought of not taking it, but... well, it's on the
other side of the Federation, and it's closer to Deneva..." He gave a halfway
shrug, unsure what to say now, but he offered the jamja stick he had. Still
uneaten and suddenly not very appetizing.
Lissi politely declined. "I've eaten so much in the last few days... The crew
of the Arrowhead were amazing. I taught classes and it seemed like they held a
big dinner almost every night. The Captain even invited me to the bridge on
occasion. I think if I ever did transfer..." She smiled, knowing they
understood her teasing. She'd be on the Avalon until the day she died, most
like, being Intel Security and all. "I really am happy for you guys, but I'm
going to miss you."
"Yeah, we will too," Anthony gave her a hug. "The Avvy's gonna be here for the
next few days. So is the Omen since she took some damage in an ion storm.
Anyway," he looked around, "there's a whole station to visit. So, after Alder
has me chasing after voles, you wanna meet up later for dinner?"
"Well..." she smiled almost shyly, "I sort of have dinner plans. What about
tomorrow?"
"Tomorrow is good," he gave a light laugh and smothered a comment.
"Hey now, none of that. You don't want me to start in on your Velocity skills.
I have plenty of ammo." After sharing another laugh, Elissabeth kissed both men
on the cheek and promised to see them the next day. She then hurried on to her
date with destiny.
