<USS Avalon> "Stir Crazy"

Stir Crazy
By Lieutenants, Junior Grade, Elijah Dareth and Li Vilya
with Anthony Manson as T'Pex

Looking over at Vilya, Eli asked, "How much longer are they going to keep us
here?"

The ones who had fallen sick were beamed out what seemed like ages ago and
because they didn't show signs of the virus, so were Ryan and Savannah.
However, Elijah and Vilya were still stuck in the quarantine because the virus
was in their systems, but not manifesting itself.

T'Pex looked over, "Until they think we're safe to come out. The others, their
bodies are rejecting the antidote your little nurse made. And while it's
fighting the virus, it?s also fighting the host. You," he pointed at Eli, "are
immune. Or so I?m told. Who knows what in Element's grace you have in you to
keep yourself out of this tendem."

"He didn't ask you, and this is your brilliant idea's results," Vilya grumbled.
She was not a happy camper. She was worried about her friends and just the
thought of how Ming's eyes looked when they were on the other side of the
forcefield. "And what do you suppose is the reason I'm still *achoo* here for?"

"Because you showed signs of the virus," said the med-tech from the other side
of the forcefield. "They're thinking it was designed not to effect non-human
hosts." He looked pointedly at the Romulan. "But it's looking to have an active
phase. The quantity of virul conaminate in your system has dropped considerably
in the last two hours as it hasn't found a human host to live in. I'm thinking
that another two will have you out of here. Same for him." Again, he looked at
T'Pex.

"What about me?" Eli asked.

"How are you feeling, Lt. Dareth?"

"Like I have the flu, only not as bad as the one I had when I was twelve."

The tech just nodded. "They're a little... confused by you, sir. You seem to
have a natural immunity similar to the non-humans, but it's almost like you
have too much of the human DNA for the virus to live off of instead of dying
out like theirs. I assure you that Dr. Roan is working on it."

Vilya's brows drew together. She glanced at Eli and saw his somewhat
sympathetic look back at her. It was as though he knew what she was going to
say next.

"Ah...about the Human DNA. My *achoo* husband is Human," she began. If the tech
was Starfleet trained, the sneezing would finish the sentence for her. "I'm not
quite sure, but it is quite possible..."

"Of course, ma'am," the tech continued. "We're aware of your condition.
Congratulations, I might add. It looks as if the child will be just fine as of
right now, since the pregnancy is in its very first stages. Your natural
immunities are fighting for it. You have such very little human DNA as part of
you. Of course, they are going to monitor your pregnancy very, very carefully.
But you shouldn't worry." He smiled, trying to be as re-assuring as possible.

"It looks like the only person who doesn't know, then, is my husband. He took
my word for it that I had a cold," she said brightly. Despite the situation,
Vilya just about giggled. That little bit of reassurance had bouyed her spirits
considerably. She offered Eli a grin. "So, since we're here until we get the
green light from this kind gentleman's boss, what shall we do to pass the
time?"

Eli matched her grin, happy for his new-found friend, despite their annoying
circumstances. "How 'bout 'Pin the Tail on the Romulan'?"

T'Pex offered the two a cool glare as they broke into fits of confinement
induced giggles.
