<USS Avalon> Shifting Homes

Shifting Homes
by Sr.Lt.Commander Anthony Shimbrodus and Sr.Lt. Alder Shimbrodus

The news was rather surprising, leading Anthony to read the message one more
time. And then again. It was a shock, truth be told, he never expected it to
fall on him. Though the opportunity to advance his career was to great not to
consider. They even had an opening for Alder. Anthony ruffled his hair, but his
hands kept moving about. It must have been the surprise to keep him agitated.

"What are you so edgy about?" Alder said with a light smirk came out from the
bathroom, catching his partner sitting in front of the terminal with more
attention then he usually gave. Quickly pulling a shirt over, Alder walked over
and quickly skimmed the contents of the message. He blinked for a handful of
seconds and Anthony turned his head to look at him.

"What do you think?" He asked.

Alder swallowed, "I would've never thought..."

"Yeah me neither."

"Are you taking it? And.. what are we going to do?" Alder looked at him,
pulling up a seat and looked at his husband. Alder had already made up his mind
about Anthony's.. opportunity to move ahead, he selfishly didn't want the man
to go.

Anthony smiled, obvious that Alder hadn't read the entire message, "there's a
spot for you two. The Omen lost a few of their senior officers in that Ion
Storm. They're in need of an Operations officer too."

"Department head, huh?" Alder lightly commented and Anthony nodded. He
considered it for a moment. It didn't seem so bad now that it would be both of
them. But would it be right?

"What do you say? Shall we take the position? The Omen is headed out to the
other side of Federation space. And we'll be transferring as soon as we get to
DS9."

"I.. guess we could take the positions." Alder looked at the trill, he saw
doubt, he saw apprehension. He simply knew Anthony's facial features, "what's
wrong?"

"I don't think I could be an XO on any ship," he shrugged as he shut the
terminal off, "don't think Im cut out for it."

"You've got enough command experience," Alder nudged him on the knee with a
smile, "you'll do fine."

Anthony shrugged again, "We'll see."

Suddenly Alder was excited about it, "So you'll take it?"

That strangely got a grin from Anthony, "Yeah, I will." Anthony turned the
terminal back on, quickly strolling through the list before pulling up the
message one more time. He took the offer, sending a message to Captain Ketchum
almost immediately after the acknowledgement.
