<USS Avalon> Severed Connection Part I-- Cadet Dylan Roan

Severed Connection
-- a log by
Cadet Dylan Roan

Advanced Quantum Physical Theories was one of Dylan's favorite courses at
the Academy. He was nearing graduation and finding an assignment on a ship
or Station as a StarFleet Officer. He had been a late bloomer, but these last
two years had been excellent for him. His grades had improved well enough to
be near the top of the class. He was a star Engineering pupil.

The instructor, Commander Philip Langley, was discussing the effect of
Quantum Physics as they related to practical Engineering scenarios on board
most
StarFleet Ships. Dylan was actively listening and taking notes. Then, he
felt nothing...

"Cadet Roan? Dylan? Are you okay?" Dylan heard Mr. Langley speaking to
him, but it was as if they were in two different areas of the planet.

"Dylan Roan! Attention!" The Commander yelled, trying to compel the
Cadet back to consciousness, but alas, it was for not. They carried him to the
infirmary to be checked by the doctor. All the while in his mind, he was
searching for the one voice that he always heard, Freddie's. She was like
background noise that he learned to turn down as he focused on other topics.

The Doctor studied him but could find nothing wrong. Dylan woke up an
hour later and sat straight up, "Where is the USS Avalon?" Doctor Marshall had
no reply, she didn't know. "Last I knew it was in the Alpha Quadrant on ro
utine patrol Cadet, why do you ask?"

"My... sister, she is a Doctor on the ship. I think something has gone
horribly wrong. Can you find out please?" He looked as frantic as his voiced
sounded, but how to explain how he knew. They were twins, the explanation
should be fairly straight forward.

Commander Langley arrived shortly thereafter, "Cadet Roan? Doctor
Marshall says you're worried about Felicity and the Avalon? How did you know?"

Dylan looked down at his toes and then back up slowly, "She's my twin
sister Commander, that's all I can say. Something is not right."

The Commander paused for a moment then nodded slowly, "Aye Cadet, I'm
afraid we've had no word from her, but I can't say more than that. We're
looking
for her and will bring her back safe."

Dylan felt another stab of pain at the admission. He already knew
Freddie was in trouble, the silence in his head told him that. "Thank you
Commander. You'll let me know if they find the Avalon?" Langley shook his
head.

Dylan reached out across the galaxy with his mind... but nothing met his
reach, the connection severed by time and not space....
