<USS Avalon> Settling In

            It was a new ship with a new crew and
a new challenge.  She was half afraid and half
exhilarated by it.  She always was.  The changes
required by a new assignment always left her
excited and scared.  It was one of those weird
combinations that led to high adrenaline and;
therefore, high energy.  And Lieutenant Junior
Grade Sera Teryn would not trade it for anything.
Okay, well, almost.

            As she placed her things around the
quarters, she was again struck by the bland colors
of Starfleet quarters.  She'd thought before that
she could spruce them up, but she somehow never
got 'round to doing it.  She'd get busy with her
duties and bury herself in the Engines, and the
quarters would remain barely indicating that they
were populated.  Just the one family picture
placed on the wall opposite the door so that
everyone who entered could see them and the thing
that looked like an old-fashioned juicer sitting
on the table in the corner.

            The rest of her things were more
personal and; therefore, were placed in her
bedroom, away from prying eyes.  Not that any of
her former crew had pried; they had not.  It was
just her way.  But it led most to believe that she
had come here with little to nothing of her own.
But since none asked, she did not answer the
unspoken questions.

            For a moment, Tery simply stood there
in the center of the quarters and looked at them.
"Too quiet..."  She muttered to herself.  She'd
never liked the silence of empty quarters.  She
preferred the humming of an engine room.  But she
couldn't go there until she'd reported, so she
found the location of the ship's XO and left her
quarters in search of Commander Skyler.
