Science Log
Ensign Nikkole Archer
Upon completion of the cursory studies, here are my conclusions about the
prototypes beamed aboard the Avalon and specifically the virus we have dubbed
R14.
1. Without opening the cases or collapsing any further shielding, we believe
the three cases contained 18 Romulan engineered viral prototypes.
2. Several crew members came into contact with the one label R14 and it has
shown extensive mutation abilities.
3. R14 seems to thrive only upon Human DNA. It appears non-humans could indeed
be carriers, but the virus died out after a several day incubation period in
which it was not passed along.
4. After contact with R14, the Humans began falling ill within two hours and
the virus appeared to quicken its attack once it found the key components of
the Human?s blood to attach itself to. <See Medical reports for additional
symptoms and information.>
5. R14 demonstrated, in my opinion, possible sentient abilities <See Medical
notes 07893B - 07904B for additional information and detailed analysis> ,
though we were told this was impossible and ridiculous by the scientist T?Pex
who engineered the prototypes.
6. I do not believe that anyone on this ship, though we have excellent viral
experts onboard, is entirely qualified to study the remaining prototypes
without risk to the ship and its crew. Therefore, it is my recommendation that
the cases of prototypes be placed in custody of the outpost on Omicron IV where
Starfleet?s best equipment and experts are readily available.
7. It is also my recommendation that the scientist, T?Pex, not be allowed to
return to his people. The knowledge of his work is potentially too great a risk
to the Human population. He should be detained and returned to Starfleet for
additional interrogations.
End Log.

I?m beat. Working with that virus has proven both stressful and therapeutic.
Stressful, obviously, because it nearly killed several of us and the last thing
I ever wanted to do was go near it again, but Lt. Raelin insisted that it would
be advantageous for a first hand account and so we worked together to ready the
report of our findings for Captain Ketchum.
Viruses aren?t really my area of expertise, but mostly it was just reporting on
what I observed. Times like this makes me miss Stephens and his conspiracy
theories. He would?ve had a field day with this one. After I got out of
quarantine, I found out that he?d gotten sudden orders on the starbase we
stopped at for repairs. Didn?t even get to say goodbye. But it?s not like he
really liked me all that much anyway. It was just kinda neat to follow along
with his funny little theories.
Went out with Patrick a couple times... I think we could get to be pretty good
friends. He?s sweet even if he is a player.
And now, I?m out for some well-deserved holodeck time.
