Tavi shivered, and shivered some more.  There was warmth under and  around 
her, but she was cold on the inside.  She was in a strange  space, but when she 
opened her eyes, everything was too blurry to make  out.  She closed them 
again.
 
"The child is awake," a voice came distantly to her ears.  It sounded  so far 
away, but even so she could tell it was a programmed voice.  Real  voices 
didn't have the same cadences.
 
She couldn't make out the response, other than to tell it was a real person  
in the next room.  The warmth around her increased a little, and she tried  
hard not to shiver so much.  Someone was approaching her.  Tavi tried  opening 
her eyes again, but they were still blurry.
 
"What is your name?" the programmed voice asked her, adding "You are safe  
here."
 
Safe?  What was that supposed to mean?  She was still shivering  too hard to 
respond.
