R'ish'tka: Part Four
"Moving Forward"
Ne'ris'tkia & She'ra'tkia
Ne'ris'tkia sat with her legs curled up under her, while a male stood off to
the side, ready to take away her uneaten food. She was starting to get very
worried about their missing pilot. It had been over two days now since they
had any contact with Mir'ast'hera. She thought to herself, what the hell went
wrong? this shouldn't be happening.... She waved to the male to remove her
food. While he did that she started to wonder if space travel had been a good
idea.
There was an odd buzz in the Royal chambers. The workers seemed to be
cautiously on edge, the guards were stiffer then normal, and there had been a
bunch
of others that She'ra'tkia didn't know. She wondered briefly what was going
on but then twisted her legs in a shrug and slipped into the main chamber of
the Royal chambers.
"What brings you here She'ra'tkia? Isn't this the time for your studies? You
mustn't neglect them, you will need them if you are to ever become queen."
Ne'ris'tkia closed her eyes, (all three of them), and sighed.
Her tutors were idiots and she despised wasting time with them. âYou are
stressed, Mother.â She'ra'tkia said gentle as she avoided replying. âWhat
has
happened? Everyone is in such a strange mood.â
Yes, she was stressed. She may have sent one of her own to a certain death.
"There has been a lot going on daughter. We or rather the scientist's managed
to create a ship capable of warp flight. That ship was launched two days ago
and we have heard nothing from the pilot. I fear I may have made a grave
error in trying to advance our culture." She took one of her long legs and
used
it to scratch her back. She then curled it back underneath her. "I am not sure
what to do about what has happened."
She'ra'tkia curled her legs under herself, sitting next to her mothers
throne. âIt is sad to think that we have lost one of us, but can we truly
better
our status without making such sacrifices?â
"I suppose not. Yet it is not pleasant to think of losing one of your
daughter's. One you gave birth to. I can only hope that those in the science
department can come up with a way of contacting her."
âHave faith in Mir'ast'hera and in your scholars, Mother.â She'ra'tkia
offered kindly.
Looking at She'ra'tkia, Ne'ris'tkia smiled, as much as pincher's would allow
a smile. "How did one as young as you become so...intelligent? Out of all the
eggs, out of all my children, you seem to be the most caring and unders
tanding. You make me proud."
It certainly wasn't thanks to her moron tutors, that's for sure. She twitched
her legs in another shrug. Maybe it was the fact that there wasn't a data
base nor written text that she hadn't read, or perhaps it was the hours she
spent with their people both common lower castes and the privileged higher
ones.
âThank you, Mother.â She finally replied.
"Enough of this chit chat. Tell me what you have been up to lately? Someday
you will be in this chair. It is an awesome responsibility. I know you like to
go among the other castes but always remember your standing. You are of
royal blood and as such should be treated that way. I know you don't like it,
I
didn't either, however it is our lot in life and we cannot change it." If only
I could change a few things....
She'ra'tkia frowned, her pinchers closed tightly. âI know that someday I will
be Queen, but I do not see why I must think that makes be better then anyone
else. I learn just as much from the workers as I do from the Priestesses.â
Xenâannâlss knows more then any of them and she is merely a Huntress.
Sighing Ne'ris'tkia lowered her head. "It's not so much that we are better
than the rest, we just have more responsibility and there are those who would
rather keep things as they are, instead of moving forward. I trust you are
being careful when you venture out?" Why did she have to be the smart one and
the curious one?
âI go alone and appear as they do, but they are aware of who I am.â
She'ra'tkia admitted. âI do not fear the people I visit.â
"That is good. You are young and still have a long life ahead of you. You
need not sit here with a worry wort as myself. Go out and have some fun. I must

try and find a way to bring back our pilot." You have always been the
brightest and shining star in my eyes. Why can't I tell you?
She'ra'tkia regarded her mother for a moment. âPerhaps your advisors will
have fresh ideas?â
"I can only hope so. Tell me, do you think that it is wrong for us to explore
the outer galaxy?" Ne'ris'tkia lowered her head and closed her eyes.
âNo.â She'ra'tkia answered. âIt is our time for growth.â
"I suppose you are right. We will just have to hope that another species
finds our pilot or our scientist's are able to locate her. I do not wish this
position on you my child, but you are next in line. I know you will do well
when
 the time comes."
She'ra'tkia raised on of her forelegs and touched one of her mothers. âI hope
that time is far off into the future.â
Feeling her daughter's leg on hers brought Ne'ris'tkia much comfort. "I am
growing weary She'ra'tkia. Your time may come sooner than you wish. You must be
prepared. Learn all you can. Don't make the mistakes I have made."
âI will be as ready as I can be.â She reassured. âI simply do not wish to

lose you.â
"You need not fear. I am not on my death bed yet. I will see that we meet new
races and get our pilot back before I die. I just want you to be ready."
Ne'ris'tkia took her foreleg and raised her daughter's head. "You will make a
great leader one day, for now, I am sure you have other things you would rather
do than sit here with an old woman. Go on and enjoy yourself but always be
careful of everything and everyone around you. Go in peace my child."
She'ra'tkia rose to her feet and nodded respectfully. âGoodnight, Mother. Be
well.â With that she left the chamber for her own private chambers where her
servants would be awaiting her with her meal and a bath.
