<USS Avalon> Risa No More

Risa No More

by Colonel Alder Shimbrodus and Ensign Jayden Cross

Three warships against three antiquated vessels that the Risans had left in
tiny armada. The Lassiter and Cordova begane firing, taking out one ship before
it could open it's gun ports. The other two were a little quicker, dodging the
phaser fire and returning their own. The Avalon shook lightly, barely
noticeable as the internal dampeners quickly stabalised the ship. "Return fire,
and then follow the plan," Alder said cooly.
"The bio weapons are loaded, ready to fire, sir," the Tactical officer informed
Shimbrodus.

"Do it," Alder said as he got up and looked at the screen.

"Firing." The points of light left the Avalon, aimed directly for the surface
of Risa. Once they hit the atmosphere, they disappeared from view.

"Impact in five, four, three," counted Jayden Cross from the Science station.
"The virus has been released, Colonel."

The cruel smile played along his lips, and Alder suddenly felt a wash of relief
as the view screen was filled the planet's atmosphere that was quickly becoming
nothing more than a black mass. "Prepare for planetary bombardment."

"Fast spreading ratio... fifteen percent coverage," Science reported as
Tactical said, "Readying phasers."

"Twenty-five percent. The virus is airborne and spreading."

"Im getting a hail from the planet. Audio only."

Alder simply nodded, and suddenly a loud booming voice came through, begging
and sobbing, "dont do this. Spare the children at least! Please, stop the
bomb..." The link was cut and Alder just looked forward, "continue bombardment."

"Sir, the last Risan ship is attempting to transport survivors."

"Have the Cordova and Lassiter destroy it."

"Advise to release the next bomb at coordinates 034.2, sir. The dissipation
ratio of the previous is slowing, with only twenty-two percent coverage."
Jayden closed her ears to the pleas from the surface. This is what she was
meant to do. Destroy things.

"Helm, you heard her, set course and prepare to fire." Alder ordered. "Status
report on the last Risan ship."

"It's been incinerated."

With an approving nod, "good."

The view of the planet shifted as the Avalon came about to a clean section of
atmosphere. Once again the biogenic weapons were fired, and once again the
cloud began amassing itself.

"Status on the first continent, sir," Jayden began. "We are showing minimal
life signs. It's working." Inside her heart leapt to see the fruition of her
work. "Dissipation is right on schedule and the planet will be safe to
traverse within the hour if you wish to aquire it."
Tapping a few more keys, she announced, "Sixty-eight percent coverage on the
second continent, total world coverage of twenty-nine percent."

"Continue until complete. After that, set course to Betazsed, helm."

"Understood."
