<USS Avalon> "Right Cause, Wrong Effect" By Sr. Lt. Manson and Lt. Marksbury

"Right Cause, Wrong Effect"
By Senior Lieutenant Anthony Manson and Lieutenant First Class Elissabeth
Marksbury

Ensign Dareth had put together the entire security detail without a hitch.
There was an escort for each Rydyn and a compliment of five more just in case
the worst happened. The detail had been briefed on every situation Dareth
could think up.

The delegates began stirring towards the conference room as early as
oh-eight-thirty. Apparently Dareth had done an excellent job of piquing their
curiosity.

Lissi stood outside the door of conference room three, greeting them politely
as they were escorted inside. And mentally counting them, of course. She was
pleased when all of them were accounted for a full fifteen minutes early - just
in time for Sr. Lt. Manson to walk down the corridor.

Anthony straightened his tunic as he approached Marksbury, "All of them are
there?" He looked to his left, he saw three more security staff ready and
waiting.

"Yes, sir. I even escorted the one from the brig - though he's going right
back afterward, so there could be a bit of a stir about that - I haven't poked
my head in the door yet, saving it for the last possible moment. There is a
personal escort for each of the Rydyns and a detail of five more just in case.
I...didn't quite know what to expect and wanted to be prepared." Taking a
quick breath, she said, "Here is your report, sir."

Anthony nodded, taking the PADD from her. He scanned it and said, "Let's go."

They entered, and almost immediately the entire delegation began shouting,
questions muffling each other until Anthony resigned trying to say anything and
stood there. Waiting.

Lissi took up post at the door next to Dareth and waited to hear Mr. Manson's
speech.

The delegation slowly became more quiet as Manson just stood there, silent as a
statue. After a few moments, they were all hushed, with only everyone's
breathing and the ship's familiar hum still present. "Good. Now then. This is a
simple meeting, with a few details I'm about to go through.

"Let's make one thing clear. You are not allowed on the bridge. Unless
otherwise stated, your presence anywhere else will be a breach in security.
Your limits have been surpassed in your attempts to find out information which
is not open to you. The terms of your stay and how you are treated- no matter
how much you think is unfair- is non-negotiable. Until the Captain says so,
your restrictions will be on Decks two and portions of deck three that some of
you are currently residing in.

"We have tried to accommodate you. That much is clear. You have access to all
the facilities, no matter how limited I hear from the reports. I do not think
it is necessary to start harassing a crewman to be allowed access to the
bridge. Furthermore, if you want information, Ambassador Oonal will be your
primary provider; not that there is much info to begin with.

"One of your delegates attempted to access information concerning the current
status of this ship and its crew. I will not warn any of you again. Anymore
attempts of that nature, not authorized by someone of a higher rank, and I will
make sure each of you will be in the brig, or permanently confined to quarters
until we reach earth. You all have been anything but pleasant and cooperative.
It's clear you cannot keep to yourself and have only aggravated the crew. Now
then, that is all. If I hear one more violation, I'll get the clearance to have
you all confined. Is that understood?"

Ambassador Oonal stalked forward to Lt. Manson, rage in his eyes. Lissi was by
Manson's side in a second, but not quick enough to prevent Oonal from punching
Manson squarely in the nose. Oonal's security escort had him in custody
immediately, but the damage had already been done. It started an all out
brawl.

The security detail had been well briefed on possible scenarios and this was
the worst. At least they knew what to do. It was chaos- yelling, fists
flying, and cursing.

Marksbury knew, however, that the situation was under control, no matter how
bad it looked. She grabbed Manson by the arm and hauled him out the door,
sending the guards stationed outside into the fray.

Once outside, she asked Manson, "You okay, sir?"

He felt his nose, nothing broken. It wasn't much of punch, "Yeah, I'm fine.
Let's get back in there. Looks like we're going to confine them in their
quarters faster than I thought."

"You stay here, sir. You're presence will just agitate them further. I'm
confident in my team to handle the situation. I'll see how it's going." She
stepped inside the room and ducked a swing from Ambassador Maratt, who seemed
to have been waiting for that opportunity.

Anthony didn't take her advice, feeling that one more person would be better
than one less to settle this. He walked in, only to duck a punch. Then he was
blocking blows and dodging people who were being thrown about. He let out a
frustrated growl as he grabbed a crewman's phaser and shot the nearest Rydyn,
who was readying a kick at Marksbury's knees. The Rydyn flew back and the
commotion stopped abruptly.

Breathing heavily, Lissi looked wide-eyed at Lt. Manson. She ordered security,
"Put them in custody." The Rydyns were too shocked to protest further.
Tapping her com-badge, Lissi said, "I need medical assistance in Conference
room three, deck two. Now." She walked over to Manson and calmly reached for
the phaser in his hand. He readily handed it over. "Get these people back to
their quarters," she told the officers.

"Dareth - "

"Already on it," he responded.

The Rydyns were being quickly ushered out of the conference room one by one.
And Dareth was checking on the fallen Ambassador.

Anthony let out a breath, "This will be interesting. The Captain is going to
have my head on a platter by the time this is on the low down." He looked at
Marksbury, "There's too many to keep in custody. Do you want me to clear cargo
bay three? That should be big enough. When you're done, have more security
here. It seems we're going to start running low of them when the medical teams
gets to them."

Dareth reported that the Ambassador was not injured except for a couple
bruises - he was just stunned. "Please go with him when medical arrives," she
told him. To Manson, she said, "For now, I've got the Rydyns secured in their
quarters - or at least I'm getting ready to over-ride their locks to keep them
there. Do you think it's wise to put them in a large group again, sir?"

"Well, if you want them all in custody, that's what you'll have to do. But
keeping them in their quarters is a better idea. I need to fill out a report.
If there's anything else ..."

"Oh, there'll be plenty more, I'm sure," she muttered. "I have to call
Commander Sierra, sir. I have to ask that you stay until he gets here."

"That's fine."

"And call me when you meet with the captain. I should be there to get yelled
at too." Then looking at his face, she grinned, "You want some ice for that?"
