<USS Avalon> "Returning Home"

"Returning Home"
Sr. Georgia Lewis

After spending some time off with Eliza Mae, Georgia decided it would be
better if she returned to Starfleet HQ and gathered her meager belongings. She
was due to get on the next available shuttle to return to the Avalon and didn't
want to miss it. She felt as though she had been gone for ages.

Her visit with her old friend had been refreshing. No pretenses. No trying
to impress her with anything. The biggest discussion was whose Pecan pie was
the original and the best. Georgia knew without a doubt that hers was the best
but it wasn't worth arguing about. In all the years they had known each other
they were never going to agree on this particular subject.

After saying their good-byes Georgia walked the small trail to the nearest
transportation terminal. Once there she showed her ID and booked passage on the
next shuttle to Starfleet. As she waited for the transport to arrive she
thought of Skyler and the young girl who had answered her call previously. Was
Skyler really adopting a young girl? This was something totally unexpected
from Skyler she thought. Although in the long run it would do her some good.
Having someone around to take care of and they take care of her. Georgia
wasn't
a youngster anymore even though at times she felt it.

Boarding the shuttle she stowed her gear in the back and found a seat next
to the window. She made sure she was buckled in and waited for the ship to take
off. She always enjoyed watching the stars go by, especially when the ship
went to warp.

Leaning back in the chair she closed her eyes and thought back to all the
times she and Skyler had spent on various shuttles. If she counted all the
times
when Skyler was little, it was too many to count. It seemed like they had
been together for an eternity. She had thought when Skyler found out about
Melanie things would change. They did change, but not in the way she had
hoped.
Melanie was back on earth with her daughter, Skyler's niece, and Skyler was
still on the Avalon. Georgia knew Skyler would never leave the Avalon unless
it
was for a very good reason. She was dedicated to that ship.

She had watched Skyler go from a scrawny kid running around in the Tennessee
mud to a grown woman commanding a Starship. She couldn't be anymore proud of
Skyler if she was her own flesh and blood. Her biggest wish was that she
would find someone who would make her happy. Maybe it would be this little
girl.
She could only hope.
