<USS Avalon> "Rejection"

Rejection
Jayden Cross

Jayden shuffled through the collection of note cards she had received over the
last several days, most left with a gift. The fact that some of them had been
left inside her quarters disturbed her to no end, but what was she going to do?
Complain to security? On a ship full of people that would just as gladly fire a
phaser into your back as to look at you?

No. She changed her pass codes again and hoped that was enough. In the
meantime, though, she sat at her dining table arranging the cards as she?d
received them.

The words that enlighten the soul are more precious than jewels.

Be fit for more then the thing you are now doing. Let everyone know that you
have a reserve in yourself, that you have more power than you are now using.

We don't receive wisdom; we must discover it for ourselves after a journey that
no one can take for us or spare us. Your journey has been hard and harsh to
date, but there is no longer a reason to take it alone.

Remember that you are beautiful. You are powerful. You are strong. You are
kind. You are woth greatness and love. For you are a woman.

Look not mournfully into the past. It comes not back again. Wisely improve the
present. It is thine. Go forth to meet the shadowy future, without fear.

Meet me on the holodeck for dinner tonight at nine.

Why me? she thought, reading them one last time. She couldn?t think of a single
reason for the notes, nor anyone who would care. It seemed this person knew her
enough to know what was happening in her life. And it wasn?t anyone she wanted
part of, she was sure.

Her goal was nothing but to fulfill Anthony?s dreams for power and revenge. She
didn?t care. Jayden was doing it all for him, to make one last thing count
before she ended her life.

Lighting the candle in the center of the table, she burned each note as she?d
received it, taking satisfaction from watching the flames dance, eradicating
their creepy existence. She held them until the flames were too close to her
fingers then dropped them onto the glass topped table to watch the flame finish
its work.

Task completed, Jayden stood, still having not slept, and went back to work.
