"Reflection's"
Cmdr Skyler
Skyler was laying in sickbay, again, getting pretty tired of it to be quite
honest about it. She knew her own body and what shape it was in. She would
get more healing done in her own quarters, not in a sickbay bed. Somehow she
would convince the doctor's of this but for now she would just have to settle
for the uncomfortable bed and sterile lights.
It had been several hours since Georgia, Melanie and Elissabeth had all
left. She hoped that things were now on the mend. What she had done was
probably
stupid and some would say suicidal but it was a coping mechanism for her. Why
they didn't understand that she didn't know. Next they would insist on a
Psych Evaluation once they reached Starbase 12. She knew she didn't need such
an
evaluation but it was all part of the protocols so she had already sent in
her request to be seen by Dr. Moreya. That should satisfy everyone, including
her sister and Elissabeth.
Since she had nothing better to do at the moment Skyler thought back to all
that had happened over the course of the last two missions. She had to admit
she had undergone some traumatic events. Some of which she thought she had
handled fairly well, while others she probably could have handled better. In
reality it was more than just the last two missions, it had been a cumulative
effect that had been building ever since the Avalon's foray into the future.
*******
There was the encounter with the Tempest and being held hostage. She thought
she had handled that situation fairly well. The outcome had been a positive
one and had even given her a new friend. True, it was not without it's
difficulties. There were those aboard the Tempest that would have preferred
that
the Avalon did not return to it's own time, or with people from that time. Yet
the mission had been a success, the Avalon did return, the gateways were
closed, and a certain Lt. and friend had returned with the crew.
The negative aspect of that mission was the ordered mind wipes for all who
had contact with the crew of the Tempest, which unfortunately included
herself. Reluctantly she had consented to the ordered mind wipe only to suffer
from
the after effects, thereby requiring a second mind wipe. The second wipe was
not a successful one at all, but Skyler chose not to tell anyone. She did
confide in one other person, someone else who was remembering, Lyryn. From
there
things just seem to get worse.
******
The Captain was promoted to Flt Adm and the Avalon received a new Captain by
the name of Joseph Flubb. It was supposed to be a simple mission, but there
was nothing simple about it. There were still the difficulties of the mind
wipes to deal with and then the death of Captain Flubb. Now, Skyler was in
charge of the Avalon, supposedly leading the investigation into the death of
Captain Flubb, only to find out that somewhere along the way she had a
sister that she had forgotten all about. With all the stress surrounding the
Captain's death, the mind wipes, and now finding out she had a sister, Skyler
went
into a Betazoid coma. If it hadn't been for Lyryn or Lissi as she was going
by at that time, she most likely would have died. Because of their connection
they had become friends. While in sickbay, Ketchum had returned and assumed
command of the Avalon and her sister had helped to solve the death of Captain
Flubb. Skyler still had to accept the fact that she had this sister and the
reasons that led to her forgetting about her.
******
While on an ordered sabbatical, if you can call it that, Skyler discovered
something's about herself that were causing conflicts within herself. She had
grown close to Elissabeth Marksbury and they had become trusted friends, that
is until Skyler intruded where she shouldn't have, even if it was with the
best of intentions. She had betrayed a trust and in the process lost that
friendship. So she dealt with it the way she dealt with most things that she
did
that hurt others that she cared about or caused her to shut down emotionally.
She resorted to physical pain. It was the only sense she would allow herself
to feel. Which is why she was lying in this confounded sickbay to begin
with. She hadn't done anything of this nature in over 20 yrs and she thought
that
she had everything under control, apparently she was wrong. To her it made
perfect sense, she just didn't understand why others didn't understand?
They thought she was suicidal, crazy or some other such nonsense. Now she
would have to undergo evaluation, have it put on her permanent record and all
because she cared about someone and meddled when she shouldn't have.
